Klepal to end football career early

Tampa (Fla.) Plant offensive lineman Richy Klepal will be forced to end his football career much earlier than he anticipated.

Klepal is forced to end his playing career early due to multiple concussions.

The senior student-athlete was recently advised by doctors that it would be best for him to quit football and focus on the next chapter of his life, due to suffering several concussions throughout his career. Klepal was a starting offensive lineman for the Plant high school football team, the captain of the team and was also set to play football at Florida State on a football scholarship next season. Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher will honor his scholarship and Klepal will arrive on campus as a student in 2013.

Klepal’s head coach at Plant high school, Robert Weiner, shared this statement:

“As far as we know right now, he is done for good. Richy is a great kid and will continue to be a great leader for us. Jimbo Fisher has said they will honor his scholarship and I have a lot of respect for him doing that.”

Coach Weiner went on to share a little more on the type of person Richy Klepal truly is.

“Richy has become such a great, mature kid. He has it all together, both on and off the field, and he has become such a terrific young man. He is now committed to Florida State, the captain of our team and such a great leader. I always tell these guys that someday someone is going to take the ball away from us and well, it’s that time for Richy, but now he has nothing but great things ahead for him.”

Lastly, Coach Weiner went on to talk about Jimbo Fisher and how great he was during this situation.

“Coach Fisher really came through. Richy was really stressing out over possibly losing his scholarship and now he and his family have nothing to worry about. This was a truly classy move by Jimbo and this just shows how great of a person he really is. Jimbo, both on the phone and in person, was truly amazing toward his care for a young man who was struggling right now. Coach never made it a football thing. The one thing he kept saying was that he will always be a part of the Seminole football team and without reservation, he let us know that Richy’s scholarship would be honored. He really put a silver lining on such a tragic thing and it’s going to allow a young man to pursue his education.”

Noles247 reached out to current members of Florida State’s 2013, 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes to get their thoughts on the terrible news and they shared some positive thoughts toward one of their brothers.

Jimbo Fisher informed Klepal and his family that his scholarship to FSU will be honored.
