FSU lands an offensive lineman

Mechanicsville (Va.) Atlee two-star offensive lineman Alec Eberle committed to Florida State on Wednesday evening.

Eberle will play on the interior of the offensive line.

“I committed about an hour ago,” Eberle said. “I called (offensive line) Coach (Rick) Trickett and spoke with him and also spoke to (head) Coach (Jimbo) Fisher after that.”

Eberle shed some light on the reaction of both of those coaches.

“Coach Trickett was very excited and asked if I was sure I was ready to do this,” Eberle said. “He asked me if I was dead set on coming to Florida State. He doesn’t want me to leave him or screw him over and I said I am coming.

“Coach Fisher was also very excited,” Eberle added. “He told me I am part of the family now. I told him I am, no worries.”

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman has been confident he would end up at Florida State since visiting during their spring practice.

“I knew after I visited there that it was the school that I wanted to go to,” Eberle said. “After speaking with Coach Trickett after he visited me on Monday, I knew that is where I was going. I spoke with my parents and then it happened.”

The feedback he received from his future position coach further sold him on the idea of wearing Garnet and Gold.

“Coach Trickett told me it is a great opportunity,” Eberle said. “He said I have a chance to play early and win some championships. He is also the kind of coach that is going to help me get to the next level. It seemed like the best fit for me.”

Eberle said that he will come in to play offensive center or offensive guard. He is comfortable anywhere that he lines up.

“I have played pretty much every lineman position on the field, so I am comfortable with that,” Eberle said. “I am athletic as a lineman. I also already have a private coach who is going to help prepare me to go to college. I am going to do my thing.”

With regards to the recruiting process, Eberle says it is pretty much over him.

“I am pretty much done,” Eberle said. “I told my head coach at Atlee that I will talk to any schools, but that I am pretty sure I won’t change my mind. Florida State is where I want to be at. I am going to Florida State, ain’t no doubt about it.”

247Sports.com currently ranks Eberle as a defensive tackle. He is considered the No. 79 defensive tackle in the nation and No. 39 prospect from Virginia.
