What are you reading now?

I don't read anything that anyone would be interested in, since I usually read history books.

But, when I do actually read a book, instead of political blogs, and sports information, I like spy stuff or asian novels.

If anyone has something to recommend, I'll put it on my list.

I read history books as well...so I would be interested

  • So the audio book I ended up with is The Wind Up Girl. It's pretty good. Set in Thailand in a future setting that is post energy/plague crisis where calories/units of energy are currency. Kind of a new take on 1984.

  • The Girl Who Played With Fire. Pretty good so far.

  • 7th book in a 13 book series called SPQR, by Jon Maddox Roberts. It follows the career of a Sherlock Holmes type character in Ancient Rome, around the time of Cicero, Julius Ceaser, Pompey and others. An excellent look into why the Roman Empire eventually crashed under it's own weight and passed into history.

Also, they got up to all kinds of nastiness and pulchritude back in them days. In groups no less.

I got about halfway through and it seemed really slow, so I'm taking a break from it.

Just started Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy.

It is somewhat tough to follow because the backstory gets filled in so sporadically but the concepts are rather intriguing.

  • Just read the Hunger Games since the movie is out. A quick read but enjoyable. The whole time i was reading it though I couldn't help but think of the movie Battle Royale. I'm sure I will pick the other two books. Not sure what to read next.

    I'm reading

Lone Survivor -- The eyewitness accounts of operation redwing and the lost heroes of seal team 10.

Just got done reading this book today. Found myself getting choked up at times when I got to the parts about how they died.

Getting ready to purchase Black Hawk Down, heard that is a very intense book as well.

  • Rainbow Six by Tom Clancey.

Held out reading if for YEARS despite my friend's urging. Now I know why he wanted me to read it so bad. Lots of badass stuff in there for a book that (at this point) is almost 15 years old.

  • Now listening to "Under the Dome" By Stephen King. I don't usually like all of his stuff but this one is supposed to be kinda cool and is up my alley in terms of the type of sci-fi/horror I like to read.

  • BTW The book Cell sucked. Started off great, dragged a bit and picked up, then just blew the ending in typical Stephen King Fashion.

  • Eucharistic Sacrifice and the Reformation by Francis Clark S.J. Very interesting book on the sacrificial nature of the Eucharist and the opposition to the doctrine by the Anglicans and continental reformers. Great read for anyone interested in theology.

  • Read the Strain and it wasn't very good. I kept reading it and hoping it would get better, but it never did. I was rooting for the vampires by the end of the book. Fortunately, I followed it up with Wolfbreed by SA Swann. I enjoyed this one. It's about werewolves in midieval Prussia being used by monks against the pagans.
