SIAP: Hunger games

  • Who has read the book? (Not me) Who has seen the movie? (I have) And what did you think of each? I am thinking about reading all 3 books, and I am not a big reader at all. I thought the movie was pretty solid, except the ending. It seems like they just ran out of time and could not make it as interesting as possible. Other than that great movie, and what was your favorite scene? Mine was when the big black guy destroyed that one girl who was about to kill Katnice

  • Have read the first book, have not had time to read the other two yet. Overall I liked the movie, but as always the book is better. There were key changes in the movie I did not like. Some of it couldn't be helped, part of the problem with time constraints on the movie. However, the whole ending was really screwed up and rushed. A bunch of changes that I felt were not needed or could have been done better. Now not sure if changes that were done somehow incorporated elements of the other books, so that could change my opinion somewhat on them. I still feel the ending was a mess and could have been handled much better.

Only issue with the book is since it was meant for young adults it means action and such are written in less brutal fashion. Since I read a lot of dark fantasy such as Game of Thrones, it is very noticeable for me. That is a personal preference though.

  • Just read the book (my 13 year-old daughter gave the trilogy to me to read.) It was very good. The second one is good so far, too.

I will message them to you later if you want. Not at the house right now and don't have time to do it on my phone. Since this board doesn't have spoiler capabilities I don't want to post things in here that could spoil stuff for others. Thanks to some idiots comment on Youtube, I had someones death spoiled for me before I had read the book, hate that sort of thing.

  • Overall I thought the movie was well done, given the constraints on books turned to movies. The books on the other hand are fantastic! I am halfway through the third and have really enjoyed them. Strongly recommend them, super easy read

  • Hunger Games upvote party!

Seriously, I'm 42 and got turned onto the book by my teenage daughter. I laughed it off until I picked it up by chance and I'm halfway through the second book in the series. These books can be read by just about anyone and are sure to please, as long as you can stomach the storyline.

  • I've read the first two and am working on the third. The movie was like a Clifs Note version of the book. Well, maybe not that extreme but it was definitely condensed.

I thought the first 2/3rds of the second book was shit but the last 1/3 was good. And so far the third book is good.

I'm surprised you're interested in reading the books after seeing the movie first because when I saw the movie I thought, "It's a good thing I read the book first or I would have had no interest in the books."

  • Meh. The books are OK, when you get used to the style...I can't adjust to that young adult style, but the story was entertaining enough.

The movie was pretty good...I would think that for those that hadn't read the books, it could be a bit confusing.

They did a good job of covering the high points, considering how quickly the events moved. I just wasn't blown away like I thought I would.

  • I thought the ending was just as awkward in the book as it was in the movie... I liked everything else.

  • Just finished the third book - if they make the movie, it will have to change the ending to avoid a NC-17 rating. What a brutal and yet IMO all-too realistic ending.

Does she bang the president then put an arrow down his peehole?

I bet she bangs him. You can definitely see the sexual tension there.

  • Haven't read the books or seen the movie, but I did read a hilarious review about the movie by Vince Mancini (his blog is called FilmDrunk).

Check the link out, below, but beware there are probably SPOILERS in the review.
