One thing that's become big is metal covers of non metal songs and this is probably my favorite. It is Winds of Plague playing Zombie by The Cranberries. The original has always been one of my favorites by a female lead.
Disclaimer: they don't normally sing songs this slow so the singers voice takes a little getting use to. The chorus however is epic as is the breakdown after the 2nd chorus. Gregorian "ahhhs" and what not.

That's actually a really cool song(only Cranberries song I somewhat like), but I like this version better.
I always enjoyed this cover, not sure why, but I always dug it.

For anyone who doesn't like the darker side of metal, there are bands like As I Lay Dying and August Burns Red. Check out anything by August Burns Red and you won't be disappointed. Their new album Leveler is excellent all the way through. Hard to choose a favorite but I really like this one:

Fear Factory is my favorite band(though Dethklok is neck in neck with them). Slave Labor is a great song on a mediocre album(as was their next album transgression, but still had some decent songs). Their newest album, Mechanize, was a lot better than those two, and seemed to be going back to the original sound. They plan on releasing a new album this year that's supposed to be a full on concept album, kinda similar to Obselete, which has no bad songs on it.

Meshuggah's new album Koloss comes out tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.
Also, mars volta has a new album out tomorrow. Listened to it already and while its a departure from recent hx i still like it. They are a love/hate band though.

Depends on your level of Metal. I love all kinds of the music, but like the bands that set themselves apart consistently. I frequent bands (new and old) like Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Sepultura, Static X, Three Days Grace, Apocolyptica, Rage Against The Machine, Sevendust, Toadies, Silverchair, Green Day, Deftones, Sinistar, Nicky Sixx. I know, all over the board but like all their creativity in metal/ punk etc.

THe latest Slayer album World Painted Blood is their best work in a long time. Definitely worth a listen. Esp the title track.
