Funny you should mention that. To me, Dickens is the finest writer in the English language, and at once depicted an era of human misery in the bowels of London in the last part of the 18th, and first 60 years of the 19th century. Globally known as a humorist and satirist, as well as being the finest descriptive author in our language, his writings speak to me in the depths of my psyche. I struggled picking between him and Clemens. I would love to have become a "Shabby Genteel" Gentleman of limited means, but enough good friends to share a pint with at the various dives and taverns in the seemier side of that filthy city. Just my meat!

Clemens (Samuel Langhorne), and his Masterpiece - Huckleberry Finn certainly stand alone, but there is a veritable library full of his other, more esoteric and detailed writings and speeches. He was also a multi-talented individual and like Uncle Nash, a veritable rascal with an eye for devilment. He possessed and/or developed the following skill set.

Feature Article Contributor to Newspapers and pamphlets (magazines). (Nash too)
Master Mississippi Riverboat Pilot (an EXTREMELY difficult pursuit) (Not Nash - nope!)
Public Speaker (Nash too)
Investor (mostly unsuccessful) (I've done fairly well)
Inventor (Nash tried a belly-button lint remover, with very limited success).

I'm glad I've lived to see the advent of the computer and the internet. However, the wealth of knowledge and experiences I've gained through pursuit of the written word, have made me much of what I am today. Not much of a much maybe; but certainly IMO, a better scoundrel.

Franklin was a HUGE Horny Toad. I've read he liked them in their teens with firm, round ..........
