Grade your teams first round

Agree 100%. Exactly the conversation at my house. Bucks got caught trying to look smart, missed their guy, reached on a safety, and got little in return. F.

they bucs didnt miss their guy, they got who they wanted and gained a 4th round pick that allowed them to trade up twice to get two more starters for this team. how is that an F?

  • Lions: D-

Not a fan of tackles with small feet, short arms, shorts legs, and very average athleticism. This team needs defense. Don't even ask me about Ryan Broyles in the 2nd round.

  • Bucs took Barron too high, plain and simple. You don't have to be a GM to see that. They screwed up on that one and hurt there chances once again at competing in the division.

    D-, lol really?

Lions fans are funny, all Ive heard the last few years is "why aren't the Lions addressing OL, Backus sucks, Raiola sucks, we never draft OL...blah blah blah" and now we finally pick an OL, one who was rated higher than when he was picked and people are still complaining. Backus is old and coming off an injury, Cherilus is a FA at the end of the year. Move one of them to G, where there is a need as well and start Reiff at either tackle spot. I really like the pick. Id give it a B or B+

And the Lions draft purely on BPA, you dont draft for needs. Stock pile the talent. Not purely thrilled about the Broyles pick, but I cant deny his talent. We took 3 CB and 3 LB in the draft. Not all will hit, but they added depth to both positions.

I like the Reiff pick, Broyles is talented, and overall I like some of the value they got in late rounds. Id give the draft itself a solid B. I really like the BPA available strategy. I dont see who else they would have taken in the 1st who I would have liked more, and Broyles is as talented as anyone available when they picked, but there are others I may have preferred but trust their scouts over me.

wilson was excellent running behind 4 senior offensive lineman at VT. doug martin was the 2nd best RB in the draft. lamar miller is still on the board after 3 rounds. 7 RB's have been taken. yep, thats how good miller is.

I like that you are taking draft position as the closed book on talent. Reggie Bush and MJD. Case closed.

You must be in the draft room with them. The bucs greatest need is at CB since one is ready to retire and the other is facing possible prison time or suspension. They got cute and tried to trade down (from 6 to 8 is valued at at least a high third, if not a late second rounder, or a high second in 2013) thinking the Jags were not going cornerback. Instead, the Cowboys outsmarted them (which hurts to type) and got a guy worthy of a top 10 selection. Barron is NOT Eric Berry or Laron Landry. And even Landry isn't a game changer enough to be a top 10 pick, really.

i dont care about draft position, i was just stating that i think doug martin is better than wilson and miller, and apparently 7 other NFL GM's felt the same way. i guess you know more than them though.

yep sat right there next to dominik and schiano.....GTFO with that dumb sh!t. there have been articles out there that they said they wanted barron the whole time. schiano liked him that much, he even said he liked him so much he might have taken him at 5. schiano even said that when the cowboys traded in front of them he was nervous that they might take barron not claiborne. i guess he was lying, im glad i have cuthbert from noles247 to see through their charade and inform all of us about it. do you know that ron cooper is our new DB coach? do you know that he was the DB coach at LSU for the last few years? maybe he has a little inside knowledge on claiborne and advised our coaches to back off. i agree they should have gotten more than a 4th(even though dominik did some great things with that 4th), it was a 200 point difference on the value chart and that 4th was only 100 points. you dont have to explain that to me. i like how you state your opinion as fact. the only people who dont like this pick are the fans who wanted claiborne. you do know that safety was also a huge need. have you seen the safeties on the roster? our best safety on the roster(besides barron) is probably cody grimm, who ended the last 2 seasons on IR. larry asante, ahmad black, ron girault and devin holland are the rest of the safeties. thats a scary group. CB has at least 4 serviceable players. ronde is good, might have lost a step but showed last year that he still has it, for one more year at least. erick wright is an ok #2, nothing special. lewis and biggers are eh but still better at CB than asante, black, girault and holland are at safety. talib might still play too, you never know what can happen there.

nope you just have to be a fan to see that, because they know more than the GM's. we gained 3 starters at positions of need, yeah they definitely screwed that one up.

I'll be honest, I'm not really a bucs fan. I follow all the teams, but I don't have an NFL "team." I don't care about Claiborne and I wasn't hot and bothered that they didn't get him. If they targeted Barron (like they would say something else at this point), great. I think they were wrong to choose him that high. I think a lot of analysist agree. Maybe he'll be great, but usually safeties are not worth top 10 selection.

We all state our opinion as fact, although some put IMO to tone it down. I suppose I could do that, but it seems redundant. Clearly it's my opinion.

The Jags drafted a punter in the third round. Filled a position of need with a starter. Still a dumb choice. So, the logic doesn't always hold.

  • I don't think the Bucs missed on their target. Everyone was speculating Claiborne because CB is a position of need and he's at the top. If they had whiffed on Claiborne, I think they would have gone with Kuechly. Apparently their happy with Foster enough to give him more time to develop. I was surprised by the Barron pick and not too happy about it at first. But, I did a little reading and film watching and thought it wasn't a bad pick. Probably not a great pick, but not a bad pick. As was already stated, we lack talent at Safety since Tanard was cut. That's why Ronde is making the switch.
