Florida is one of the most miserable states

  • According to Gallup polls,

I found it a bit surprising but using the parameters they use I can see it. I think cost of living compared to median household income would be a better metric than just median income by itself.

  • I'm from south Florida and the following statement from another fellow Floridian I knew is very true.

"True happiness is seeing Miami-Dade in the rear view mirror"

I currently live in Middle Tennessee and let me tell you that I am not the only former Floridian who believes that this statement is true. I cannot drive for a 10 minute span without seeing one or two State of Florida tags and unfortunatley, they are not all Noles.

I went to Lipscomb and everyone always thought how cool it would be to live in FL.

Greener grass and all that mess.

  • The 'Boro.

I see Tennessee is right behind Florida on that particular list but I would not trade Murfreesboro for anything in south FLA.

Davidson, Rutherford, and Williamson Counties are totally different than the rest of Tennessee. Although there are nice areas in other parts of Tennessee, the Tri-County area is something special.

I live in cookeville, not far from you. I lived in Orlando my whole life, and although i miss some parts of florida(mainly fishing up and down each coast of FL). There is somthing to be said for living in the country.

The article related the issues; unemployment, crime and poor health. The poor health is mostly a function of the high average age. But the crime issue has been there for a long time and does not seem to improve. Unemployment is bad and is what is driving many people out of the state. I left 21 months ago and am glad although I miss our friends and many things about St. Petersburg. Florida will also get downgraded for poor public education [including the university system]. I live in relatively conservative rural New Hampshire and can tell you that the standard of living here is much higher. And you can't compare the public education my son gets to what he would have gotten in Florida [he was in a private school when we were in Florida].

  • I have lived in may parts of this fine country, and each has had plusses and minuses. Currently live in Sarasota and love the quality of life. Everything relating to liking or not liking where you live is impacted by so many variables that it is hard to generalize. And furthermore...your situation can change in a heartbeat. In any case...wherever you are...root for the 'Noles!!!
