Favorite Drummers

  • Well, we've got a thread for favorite singers, now post your favorite drummers.

Here are mine, in no order (because it changes constantly):
    - Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta) - This dude absolutely shreds. Look his stuff up if you get the chance.
    - Neil Peart (Rush) - Sorta self-explanatory...truly is THE drummer.
    - John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) - No one else like him. Completely revolutionized drumming.
    - Stewart Copeland (The Police) - Personal favorite here. His little reggae nuances he injects into his playing are fantastic.
    - Matt Halpern (Periphery) - This dude plays metal with more groove than I've ever seen. Check him out if you can.

I'll post a few videos of these guys shredding if you guys like. Interested to see what everyone else thinks, musicians on the board or not. Feel free to make a note if you play drums, have experience playing music, or if you just like music in general.

He's great. I was in a band a while ago where we played some Clapton tunes. Good times.

It was four or five years ago, my junior/senior year of high school. I'm 21 now...time flies, didn't really seem like all that long ago. I play drums.

I just think he's overrated. I really like Tool, and APC for that matter, but I truly think Danny Carey is overrated. Don't get me wrong, I just find his playing very elementary at times (even though it's technically not). Just very...flat, for lack of a better word. Remember, I'm not saying he's bad - I love his stuff on Ticks and Leeches, Vicarious, and a few other tunes where he tears it up. Just feel like he undercuts his own ability on a lot of tracks. Just my opinion though.

Have you seen tool live? He steals the show every time. But that's just my opinion.

Nope, I haven't seen them live. Sort of a bucket list thing.

Deserve got nothing to do with it...

  • To me it isn't only about being loud and fast, I see that alot in peoples favorites. Not ITT, just making a general statement.
Maybe not the "best" but some of my favorites:

John Bonham - wild man on the drums, arguably the greatest. Moby Dick solos are legendary.
Keith Moon - another wild, crazy drummer
Danny Carey - Lateralus is so good
Ginger Baker - pretty diverse style

Tony Williams - amazing how good he is and at the same time can go a little unnoticed
    Billy Cobham- same
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie - a personal favorite. Sick grooves. I could watch him drum by himself for hours
?uest Love - next generation Bernie Purdie
