Some calculations on this proposal...
Average Sheriff officer salary = 45k.... with about 45k in benefits (current benefits + pension liabilities)... so lets call it 90k per school.
Total number of elementary schools in the US = 88,982
Amount of deaths at elementary schools in the US in 2012 caused by violence = 26 (unless I am mistaken?)
So by math....88,982 school x $90,000 in annual cost = $8,008,380,000 .... that's 8 BILLION
....Or roughly $308 million per victim.
Of course this is coming from the same tax dollars paying for elementary school budgets... so your trading 1.5 teacher jobs.... in exchange for an arm guard... in the states where there is a mandatory amount of students per teacher (hint: ours), then it will have to come from somewhere else.
Interesting.... not saying I'm for or against it... just interesting look at cost/benefits
The vice president of the National Rifle Association said steps other than gun control, like cracking down on criminals and fighting violence in the media, would be most effective.

Just wanted to add... we sold around ~11 million guns in the US in 2012.... to pay for the Officers, we'd have to add a $727 tax on every gun purchased....
/which would probably reduce the number of guns sold a little...throwing the calculation off...
10 cents per round of ammo
We could institute merit requirements for raises in order to get federal. Money & shift the money from teachers that stink.
