ATLANTA -- Twenty-five years after acquiring John Smoltz in a trade that brought more attention to Doyle Alexander, the Braves will immortalize Smoltz alongside the franchise's most iconic figures.
Atlanta Braves great and current broadcaster John Smoltz will have his No. 29 retired on-field in a pregame ceremony on June 8, the same day he'll also be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame during a luncheon.
Heck of a ball player

16th. on the all time MLB strikeout list with 3084. Not too shabby.
Ain't no cell phones under water!
People in Detroit always cite the Smoltz for Alexander trade as a horrible trade. I bet at the time it happened people loved it. Smoltz was a 22nd rd pick who was 4-11 with a 5.73 era in AA when he was traded, Doyle Alexander went 9-0 with a 1.53 era for the Tigers in '87 after the trade, leading them to a division title.
Fast forward to now, who would have predicted what a great career that Smoltz had? Amazing player and well deserved.
We sure do miss Smoltzy on the mound in ATL. Awesome news!
One of my favorites.
