  • I'll kick it off, with the first installment of what could become a regular feature. Each Friday as can be, I'll try to post"

    "Nash's Dusty Disks"

These will be oldies from the 60's - 80's or so, that I grew up playing in various bands I was a member of, or just found to be appealing for one reason or another. I like lyrics, poetry and good melodies, with a bed consisting of a lively horn section or orchestrated background.

First up is the Mamas & the Papas, with: "California Dreamin", has a winter theme.

  • A group called the "Vogues", recorded a tune called: "Five O'Clock World"

I've always loved tight 4 and 5 part harmony. My bands always worked hard to adopt tunes that required this genre, this was one we played a lot - extended the guitar solo breaks to allow our audience to dance a longer interval.

  • Perhaps one of the greatest Folk-Rock bands of all time, "The Byrds", with Roger McGuinn on his Rickenbacker 12 String, David Crosby singing high harmony vocals, spun out hit after hit. Teddy & the Echoes, with Uncle Nash on Lead Guitar, Harmonica and singing both High and Low harmony vocals, played most of their hits at gigs we were hired for in the 60's and early 70's.

    Blues Monday
    Rap Crap
    Boogie
    Hefting Heavy Metal
    Love lamentation or, Love Lyrics.
Sports Themes, i.e., "Centerfield" by CCR and the like.

Well, my radio broke back in about 1985, and I got it fixed about 5 years ago. It's an open forum, and my hope is for others will chime in with some modern spins.

And don't even try to tell me you never went for some "Afternoon Delight" neither!

  • This balladier spent most of his life down around Laura's area, in St. Petersburg. He was a great singer-songwriter in the 60's and 70's, but knows mostly for writing songs for other artists. For those of you who have seen the Dustin Hoffman/Jon Voigt movie - "Midnight Cowboy, he wrote the thems song sung by Harry Nilsson - "Everybody's Talkin." Me and my friends went to hear him play anywhere and anytime we could. He was a major conservationist, worked all his adult life to save Dolphins from the predations of commercial fishermen.

This is his version, and next we'll roll out Nilsson's.

Hoffman starred as: "Ratso Rizzo." and was nominate for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
    Same for Voight.
Sylvia Miles nom. for Best Supporting Actress.
    Film won Oscars for:
    Best Picture.
    Best Director.
    Best Adapted Screenplay.

It was the only X RATED film to ever be nominated for the Academy's highest accolade, except for Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange."

Great movie. Watched it about 6 months ago. I don't think it would be x rated if it came out today though. I don't remember anything really controversial.

Dave Matthews Band - Say Goodbye

So here we are tonight You and me together The storm outside, the fire is bright And in your eyes I see What's on my mind You've got me wild Turned around inside And then desire, see, is creeping Up heavy inside here And know you feel the same way I do now Now let's make this an evening Lovers for a night, lovers for tonight Stay here with me, love, tonight Just for an evening When we make Our passion pictures You and me twist up Secret creatures And we'll stay here Tomorrow go back to being friends Go back to being friends But tonight let's be lovers, We kiss and sweat We'll turn this better thing To the best Of all we can offer, Just a rogue kiss Tangled tongues and lips, See me this way I'm turning and turning for you Girl just tonight Float away here with me An evening just wait and see But tomorrow go back to your man I'm back to my world And we're back to being friends Wait and see me, Tonight let's do this thing All we are is wasting hours until the sun comes up it's all ours On our way here Tomorrow go back to being friends Go back to being friends Tonight let's be lovers, say you will And hear me call, soft-spoken whispering love A thing or two I have to say here Tonight let's go all the way then Love I'll see you, Just for this evening Let's strip down, trip out at this One evening starts with a kiss Run away And tomorrow back to being friends Lovers...love...lovers Just for tonight, one night...love you And tomorrow say goodbye
