Would anyone else miss the ACC bowl tie ins?

  • I don't even know off the top of my head what the b12 bowls are and don't feel like googling at the moment, but I do know that I love having bowls so close in Miami, Orlando and Atlanta. Not saying it is a deal breaker, but all things must be factored in.

With the Playoff's, the landscape is changing drastically.

Add in all the conference restructuring, common sense says allegiances and ties will be changing.

It's all "up in the air" now, so one really can't base their future on it.

  • Big 12 Bowl Tie-ins:

    Fiesta Bowl
    Cotton Bowl
    Alamo Bowl
    Insight Bowl
    Holiday Bowl
Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas
    New Era Pinstripe Bowl
    TicketCity Bowl

Now, if the ACC loses FSU and Clemson with the possibility of also losing GT and Miami (among others), I can see the ACC losing its CFA Bowl tie-in and Champs Sports Bowl tie-in. Maybe some others as well.

I could see the Big 12 picking up the CFA Bowl (Big 12 vs SEC) and other bowls in FL.

    GO NOLES!

  • Personally, the only bowl I like is the Peach Bowl. Used to love the Gator Bowl: but we know what happened there.

The ACC bowls are awful in regards to time and dates.

  • Anyone want to match up the payout for those bowls side by side?

  • Bowls aren't stupid. If they saw FSU and Clemson leave they'd leave, too. Say FSU and Clemson leave for 2013 and the Orange and Champs have to match up lame ACC schools (since VT would likely be the ACC Champ) against Big East/C-USA schools. It'd be even worse than it already is. The Peach would still do well because it's just a good bowl but it could be the eastern version of the Cotton Bowl (ie, Big 12 vs ACC). I could see some bowls switching affiliations in a few years and I could see the Orange ending its tie-in with the ACC and picking whichever top teams it feels suit it best.

  • The Cotton Bowl is awesome now because it is held in Cowboys stadium.

The Cotton Bowl (the stadium in Dallas) houses some crappy 3rd rate bowl now.

  • When all is said is done bowl games will be reshuffled between conferences.

  • ACC:

    Orange Bowl (Clemson): $17.5 million
    Sugar Bowl (VT): $4.5 million
    Chik-Fil-A (UVA): $3.9675 million
Champs Sports Bowl (FSU): $2.325 million
    Sun Bowl (GT): $2 million
Music City Bowl (WF): $1.8375 million
    Belk Bowl (NCST): $1.7 million
    Independence Bowl (UNC): $1.15 million

    Big12:

    Fiesta Bowl (OKS): $17.5 million
    Cotton Bowl (KSU): $3.625 million
    Insight Bowl (OK): $3.35 million
    Alamo Bowl (Baylor): $3.175 million
Meineke Bowl (Texas AM): $1.7 million
    Independence Bowl (Missouri): $1.15 million
    Holiday Bowl (Texas): $2.15 million
    Pinstripe (Iowa ST): $1.8 million

With 2 schools in the BCS the ACC came out 500K more than the Big 12. If 2 had not made the BCS the difference would have been 4 million in the Big 12's favor.

    ACC ......................... $34.98m (2.92m) ...........$12.98m (1.08m)
    Big 12 ...................... $34.45m (3.445m) .........$16.95m (1.695m)

The Big 12 still made 600K a team more after final payout.

The ACC left an 862K bowl unfulfilled. Mizzou took a lesser payout in the Independence Bowl to play in SEC territory.

  • Take VT out of the picture too and the ACC better get ready for a slate full of neverheardofit.com bowls.

I suppose this is likely, but I doubt we'll be able to keep so many in close proximity to the fan base. I'm being selfish.

I would add the Champs to that, but anything beyond is a complete joke since the Gator is now SEC.

  • Could see the Orange go to the B12 given its history with the old Big8

Could you imagine Orange and the Champs or CFA goi g to the big12 which drops some crapy pinstripe or car bowl. Wow that would be some great bowl tie ins.

To each his own. Yeah you can buy beer and enjoy the game at 70 degrees. And if you're sitting up to high you can watch everything on the giant scoreboard, and be bombarded by ridiculously loud ads. However I love the original Cotton Bowl. There is not a bad seat in it because of the classic bowl shape. Watching CFB under the sun you can't beat it IMO. Btw Arlington is a dump and the Cotton Bowl looks over downtown Dallas. If you ever get a chance to go to the Fair before the Texas ou game I highly recommend it.

Big 12 already has a BCS tie-in with the Fiesta. The Orange would go "independent" and choose the top at-large teams before becoming some conferences #2 bowl.
