Winston doing things his own way

  • Jameis Winston does signing day on own terms - ESPN

Jameis Winston always has followed his own plan, even on national signing day when everybody was racing to the fax machines to sign.

  • Read that last night, was news to me that he pushed his signing to as late as next Wednesday(last I heard it was today), and all that Stanford talk, plus the "I need to go back and talk to my family" kind of made me uneasy. I hope he sticks with that "all Nole" comment. Currently Stanford has been in BCS last 2 years, baseball will be ranked #2 this year, supposedly better education and look at that O-line. feel better when I see he signs.

  • I'm not worried at all about Stanford and MLB at this point. He's coming to FSU.

Definitely worried about the MLB, not worried about Stanford.

If it were my kid, and he got drafted in the first round for baseball, my hope is that he would go play baseball.

The ignore button just doens't work for me. You still see that he's posted and out of morbid curiosity I always have to look.

Come on!! I am not saying he is as good as gone.

However, If someone threw 500k at you in HS to play a game you loved would it have been easy to say no?

I have every reason to believe he intends to come to FSU. I also believe that unless he is a very rare human being 500k will cause him to consider playing Basball to see how it works out.

Who wouldn't consider it in the same position?

No one is saying you are wrong. I'm just saying I'm not surprised that you would be the one to chime in and post that. cool

I honestly have no idea where he will go in the draft, but I would imagine he will fall between rounds 1-10. It will be interesting to see how the money shakes out with the new CBA. FSU has a great baseball class (specifically in the pitching department) and maybe (hopefully) will benefit from the new CBA.

  • MLB has a fairly hard slot system in place now so he'll get close to the slot money for where ever he gets drafted. That definitely helps us.

  • Winston is rated as the 24th best HS baseball player, factor in the College kids and forgien kids and he could be a mid 2nd round to early 3rd round...... MLB is a threat but not as big as some speculate.... and he has said that distance is a factor cause he wants his grandmother to watch him play college ball.....

He wants to be a pitcher and he only throws 91. That immediately hurts his draft stock. He will go between the 3rd and 5th rounds imo. He won't get nearly as much money thrown at him as we all think.

His baseball ability is like a mythical creature that grows with each story.

Now if he just focused on playing OF.....he would probably go way higher. He is so raw at pitching it isn't even funny. He doesn't have the commanding 2nd pitch to warrant getting selected that highly yet. 91 works for a little but after you see it a few times it's going to get crushed without a above average slider/curveball

    supposedly better education

There's no supposedly about it. Stanford is one of the best schools in the country. And on that note, as these new University rankings came out, (I know, I know, but it's what everyone pays attention to nowadays) we sit at #101, the same place we were tied with Clemson last year; this year they jumped up to #68. What the hell? I hope President Baron came make the academic changes necessary to move our school up, because this backslide we've been under sucks.

I don't think he would get the 1-2 million he is asking for in rounds 2-3. He might see a fraction of it.

Didn't want to ruffle any feathers comparing educations, what you posted I know to be true. That plus a #2 ranking on the baseball team, BCS game last 2 years, great O-line haul, surprised everyone dismisses it so quickly.

Does he want to play pitcher? I wasn't aware of that. I wonder how much his sign-ability hurts his stock? What organization would waste a high pick on a guy who might play football?

They are a GREAT school, make no mistake about it. However, from what I have read, those rankings are based on pure politics.
