Why does it seem like the sports writers..

  • Are against the move? On twitter all they are doing is being negative. I shouldn't say all, but a lot of local ones are.

  • They don't want to travel.

  • Sportswriters negative? Na couldn't be.

    WarDogCG58

  • 2 reasons:

    1. There is realignment fatigue

    2. They want the ACC to stay relevant.

This...travel budgets are tight for newspapers as well.

    Idk. Because they're idiots?

    tricknole

  • They have ZERO answer for how FSU will balance their budget. They will COMPLETELY ignore that massive issue while the scoff at any move.

  • I think it is because either option isn't a slam dunk. Going to the Big-XII has some risk. And certainly staying in the ACC does, too.

I don't care where FSU goes. Doesn't bother me at all. Just think everyone needs to consider every angle instead of voting to switch conferences just because they don't like the ACC. If you've got sound financial proof that it is a good move (include travel expenses of all sports etc.), then hey, go for it. I don't know if there has been time enough to calculate that just yet? Maybe there has. Maybe they haven't.

Either way, FSU is going to be looking up to somebody. IMO, they might as well look up to Texas instead of Duke/UNC, so long as the numbers work. Either outcome doesn't really matter to me.

  • I feel the same way. Whatever is best for FSU. It just doesn't seem like the ACC will be it financially though.

  • The authors are probably FU grads, and don't want the SEC in competition with a strong conference.

    Solid post.

  • The local guys (Ira, Corey Clark, Jim Lamar, etc...) are just stirring the pot, that's there job. As for the national guys they are tired of the never ending realignment talk or they have concerns about the school(s) they cover.

    GeorgiaNole

  • Whatever, it will force those that love their sinecure out of their comfort zone, and give the adventurous rest a new paradigm to cover. Some will actually embrace it, and some will hate it - as will be reflected in the bias of their writing - just watch.

Part of this is true, Corey, but I guarantee you this:

When any Texas team comes to town, the game will be sold out.

This move would be way more profitable than just TV revenue.

Texas teams travel extremely well, and they spend loads while in town.

It will indirectly allow businesses in Tallahassee to see better profits, which leads to better donations, yada, yada

It's a good move to either the SEC or B12

  • I think there's multiple reasons.

1.) Most of them were burned last time. Chip Brown spent all of his capital and ended up looking like an idiot and as Bellmont's (Texas) mouthpiece. This time they don't want to take the same chances.

2.) Some of them, Chadddddddddddddddd Scott, David Ubben and the Warchant douchers (Thomas Briggs, etc.), have taken such a hard line stance on the ACC and made such wildly incorrect assumptions that they just don't want to back off them. They're going to go down with the ship no matter what because they've already spoken in absolutes.

3.) And finally the MSM media have flat out been beat on this one. Like it or not the story has been reported through the internet messageboards of various teams for months. The MSM guys are so late to the party that they want to shut it down by marginalizing everything as an internet rumor and then when something breaks they take credit for it like they've been on the train the whole time.

I find the whole exercise fascinating in exposing the laziness in today's journalism. If this is what Northwestern and Missouri produce then some other journalism departments around the country don't have any ground to make up at all.

Briggs and the Warchant crew have deleted and over moderated their boards and banned anyone who even mentioned FSU/Clemson and the Big 12. They became so emotionally invested in it that their douchebaggery reached epic levels.

Now that it looks like everyone they were insulting and banning were right they're walking it back and trying to get in front of it. Same thing with Chaddddddddd Scott. That d-bag just posted this on twitter:

ChaddScott: Prior to Yahoo report, talk of FSU leaving ACC was absurd. If that report is accurate ALL ACC schools obligated to consider conf affiliation

That guy got his ass beat so bad by internet posters with logic but had already made his bed and just like Warchant became emotionally invested in being correct. Now that Wetzel comes out with a story he tries to act like it all makes sense now.

What this whole thing is proving is that the vast majority of "journalists" are lazy self important twits.

  • Lol, yea those nazis over there are a trip. A week ago they sounded like Sadam "There are no American Troops in Bagdad". Now they act like they were all over this all along. Not!!!

    UT only IMO.

I don't see TCU selling out.

TTU I don't know about but I really doubt them selling out either.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I live right by TCU and their football following is gaining momentum but is about on the level of the low-mid tier teams of the conference.

Don't forget that in the case of ESPN, CBS, Fox, and NBC, they have a natural conflict of interest since they are fully involved in all of these contracts. Their reporting is disingenuous at best.

Goes for most of the corporate owned news as well, not just sports.

  • Personally, I'd be upset that after having to cover realignment news that didn't pan out last summer, now it has to be covered ad nauseum again.

Also, travel would suck. I think it was Corey Clark that pointed out flying in a rickety biplane into Waco. It was a little bit of hyperbole (I hope), but you get the point. Less to do in Lubbock than Boston.
