  • EJ does run...I dont know if you saw Ward play but in his JR year there were times when he looked like Big Time Crap...EJs JR Yr was just as good as Wards..Not to mention Ward did not get hurt and our OL was not beat up like last year..Wards OL was one of the best in the nation..

I do remember Charlie's Jr year. He looked like crap early but after the coaches adjusted the offense he finished 6th in the Heisman IIRC. Yes, he did have a better o-line and maybe, backs. That's the point, our o-line has yet to show they are top-level so the pressure is on EJ. I don't think he's a pro-style pocket passer and am not sure he can withstand the beating he takes using his legs. Injuries have limited Ej a lot.

  • Thanks for the downvote by the way....EJ doesn't like to run. He doesn't utilize his talent well. If a play is broken he should realize it and make something happen because he can. I does not read situations well. EJ is a RS senior making freshman mistakes like staring down receivers. I like EJ's talent as much as anyone else and I want him to succeed but he just does not play well in this offense and I don't think this year will change that. OL aside, I think he is a good QB. He will not become great until the basics are fixed. But like I said his stats mean nothing to me. When you are a Junior I expect you to make better judgement calls on 3rd and 3 and equivalent situations where a broken play could have been bounced out at least to get the 1st.

And that is why I say until the change the offense to fit his style he will be just a good QB.

Sometimes you work your system with who you have. Its been done before with good results. Don't sweat the downvotes bro. They won't raise your taxes or anything. Just haters hating.

Not saying EJ isn't our best option. Just wondering if his strengths are being best utilized. Without cheating, Shawn, Tiger, Rock. I think Dexter was already gone. Memory is probally slipping. Damn bro, that was 20 years ago.

  • Dub...I agree we should play more to his strengths..It drives me crazy he does not run more..FSU is not getting the hype like they did last year and I love it...This team wil be great next year..

I'm hoping so. I'll criticize but I love the Noles bunches,. got in some fistfights in prison with gate fans over the G&G (tebow days). We're all fans and I like the talk on this board. Go Noles bro.

I remember running before he got hurt. Maybe I was hallucinating that????
Look at his numbers last year......then get back to me about him being worse than Coker/Trickett.

I think you missed his point. EJ needs to run to best utilize his strengths. If he can't run (because of injuries) then adjustments should be made. We've all agreed that EJ is our best option. If you're hallucinating I hope you enjoy it.

  • Comparisons to Ward are just silly for two reasons. First, Charlie CLEARLY turned the corner in his junior year, EJ at the end of his junior year captained the biggest stinkfest on offense I have ever seen with an FSU team (UF Game) and secondly, the offense Charlie was in threw downfield a lot more than the offense we run now. We dink and dunk a lot more so the stats are going to look better. What the stats do not show are how many "game changing" plays the QB is responsible for. If they measured a stat like that it wouldn't be close between Ward and EJ.

2 cupcakes and one half against OU isn't much of a sample group. I agree, I'd love to EJ do his thing healthy for a full year.

  • G&G its not silly and you must not have seen Ward play..He threw short passes all the time..Ward looked like crap in his JR YR......Wards line was much better than EJs...If the OL stays heathy they will be good..

  • Ward turned the corner at the Ga Tech game of his junior year and played great the rest of the year. The light bulb turned on and that has yet to happen with EJ.

  • My pucker factor peaks everytime EJ loads up and chucks it down the middle. I'll give him probably being a tad gunshy due to his OL, but dang it man, read the D dude!

I have been a huge Coker proponent but the only series (granted it was only one) I saw him in he couldn't hit the field, let alone a target. Nerves I'm sure, but I have to say Trickett, given a summer, may not be out of the question for us.

No matter what, that D will keep us in every game this year. Nasty is about all that can be said about them.

  • So you say G&G about Ward...I bet you never saw Ward play.....I say your wrong about EJ...I guess we will see...

  • Think about this too he took what 2-3 sacks in the game all were 1 to 2 hand touches ej is 6foot 5 240-250 one or two hands isn't gonna bring him down u need your whole body to do that. One of those sack was a tap and he completed a perfectly thrown 50 yard pass for a touchdown what will ej be able to do if he can be touched and step up in the pocket a deliver a dime if they were playing legit he wouldnt have been getting the ball out of his hands so quickly trying to avoid being touched by a finger just give it time if he stays healthy the offense will be great with options and the threat for him to run. JUst hope to god he stays health

This is why these things should not be televised, people take way too much from them.

That said, this is the typical FSU fan reaction, going back to when people were screaming for Danny to replace Chollie, then Busby to replace Danny..and on and on....so I am nto surprised and no thats not a slam on anyone, just happens the game was televised and people will overreact to what they see, good or bad.

No one ever wanted Danny to replace Charlie. I was at FSU when Charlie was the QB and he was a god. Everyone knew this and wanted the ride to last as long as possible. After the GT game, we were happy campers. Danny was a nice QB but no one ever said let's bench the best player we've ever seen for some unknown guy. For those of you who have only seen Charlie on replays, you missed something. It was beyond dynamic.

    Bmaster,
I'm not sure if you saw Charlie play because after the GT game he simply blew up. The guy finished 6th in the heisman voting his junior year. Did EJ get a heisman vote? Charlie was the best QB in FSU history and everyone knew that at the end of his junior year. You can't compare Charlie stats since he didn't finish most games his junior year. If you take away the early picks prior to the fast break offense, his stats standup to anyone in the country. Are you really saying Charlie wouldn't have scored more points in the swamp last year then EJ? What about against an average UVA team? What about against an average ND team?

  • An elite OL can make an average QB look elite- Leinheart
A poor OL can make an elite QB look average.
I believe EJ threw 20 TD's and had 8 Int's last year, not bad at all.

As far as Charlie Ward goes, he had the one of the keenest instincts on when exactly to run I've ever seen. Average but accurate arm. I'll disagree with one of the above posters, after the first 4-5 games of his redshirt junior year And 16 Ints thrown...a lot...A LOT of fans wanted Ward benched. The shotgun/fastbreak offense saved him and FSU that year.

  • PVB...I saw Ward play...I think you did not see him play ....Ward went off on GT?!?!? Completing 20 of 32 for 183 yards and 2 TDs...You call that going off?!?!?The next next week against VA he was 11 of 29 for 128 YDs with 0 TDs FSU won in a shoot out 13-3...You call that going off??? Ward had a better OL and he did not get hurt..Wards JR was not as good as you are making sound..He had alot to of hype around him..
