When does practice start?

  • Pretty sure its August 6. As far as updates you will get the typical Jimbo, " we did some good things, got a lot to work on, showed some good intensity......" Essentially Jimbo will be saying a lot without giving any real detail to how the team is doing. Also I believe the media is given only 20 minutes at the beginning of practice to watch and then they are kicked out. At the end of practice Jimbo typically meets with them and discusses the practice.

    Long gone are the days where Bobby would tell you everything you wanted from new formations to players lining up at different positions.

  • The typical alternating good/bad reports. One week it will be the best this team has looked at this point since he's been here. Next week he will say they looked like crap/lacked focus/lacked effort/lacked leadership.

    This is correct. And the 20 minutes that we do get to observe consist of stretching, warm ups and flex. I would love to be able to give you insight as to how the players are performing at practice, but as you all know those days are gone. Everything we know is from what we've been told by Jimbo, which we relay directly to you.

  • Is their a reason for starting practice so late, the first practice is only 25 days before the first game. Other programs are starting earlier some at the end of July. You would think starting earlier makes sense since its a great chance some practices will be called due to storms.

    Not sure of the exact reasoning, but it may have something to do with players still being in summer classes. As it is, they open the first week of camp during finals week.

    Is there any way to get video of Jimbo's post practice interviews? I know he doesn't reveal much but I still like to hear what he has to say.

    I think it has to do with the fact that our first game is in September and not August.

    dont forget that they have two a days....essentially doubling the practice time

    am I aware of that, starting earlier just gives you more flexibility for days off/rest or to make up for rain outs

    This is sort of sad but when I went through two a days and there was thunderstorms coach Bowden would make us practice in shells in Tully Gym so that we wouldn't miss a session.

    IIRC seminoles.com usually gives free access to post practice interviews. My guess is that most Nole sites will either link to interview or post their own.

    Maybe he's counting on those delays (Delays happen in games too). Recall Jimbo doesn't miss practices. He holds them and practices as late as need be.
