What happens in cases like 2009 where the Texas and Bama are in the NC game but the next best Big 12 is Ok St. ranked #19 to go up against UF@G at #5? Do they do like the Rose and pick the best matchup of #6 Boise St at 13-0? Oregon and Ohio St were ranked 7 and 8 and played in the Rose. Georgia Tech at #9. Who plays in New Bowl in 09?
Cincinnati and TCU were in the top 4 with Texas and Bama.

So this is pretty much how things shape up now.
Big 12, PAC 12, B1G and SEC will send top rated teams to the 4 team playoffs and 2nd best teams to face each other.
So in most years the top 8 post season payouts will be retained within those conferences and a highly reduced window for all others to get one member in.
The ACC champ would likely be facing a 3rd best team from another league in most years.....trying selling that to recruits.

IMO it's very plausible that the very deal where the SEC is hitching their wagon (or at least partnering) with any conference would only be done under the conditions where the SEC already had confirmation/knowledge that the B12 is expanding & improving. Otherwise, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the SEC, which is clearly the #1 CFB conference ATM, to partner with anyone.
