I'll still be stunned if it happens. I think Bowden gets his wish.

    Guys it's over.

We are headed to Big12, we were before this announcemt but now thier is no doubt

What happens in cases like 2009 where the Texas and Bama are in the NC game but the next best Big 12 is Ok St. ranked #19 to go up against UF@G at #5? Do they do like the Rose and pick the best matchup of #6 Boise St at 13-0? Oregon and Ohio St were ranked 7 and 8 and played in the Rose. Georgia Tech at #9. Who plays in New Bowl in 09?

Cincinnati and TCU were in the top 4 with Texas and Bama.

Thier is no BCS anymore no picking etc the conferences now have total control. I that happens a big 12 team will play a sec team - no at large crap.

    All those rules are gone

My feelings as well. We are just lucky dawgs that Big 12 wants us bad enough to put up with Barron's theatrics. It's like we've got a full ride offer to Harvard Law.......I mean, I GUESS you can turn such things down.

I don't think Barron is nearly as dumb as people on this board make him out to be. He can play the good guy with the ACC all the while allowing things to proceed behind closed doors with the Big 12. That e-mail from him didn't do any damage, it simply gave counter points on why leaving may not be the best idea, but he is the President and can ride the fence and play politics, it doesn't mean it killed or even hurt us going to the Big 12. I keep hearing people saying its a done deal and I hope they are right, but I am nervous.

  • On Finebaum's show Wed, a guest of his mentioned the new playoff was estimating to yield a TV deal of around $20B. Let that sink in for a second...those are NFL type numbers. This sport is about to explode for a few conferences. Four big conferences of the major brands with a playoff is where media wants this to go. They will steer this with their checkbook.

In the future, prime recruits will go to the big conferences as a result of this. As a result of the money disparity, small schools in major conferences will rise and the Boise States will fade from view. They will not be able to continue to produce same results. Even if you find a strong coach and produce a couple of years of good results, they'll get snapped up by the bigs. Small conferences won't be able to stop it because of the money disparity.

I don't like it necessarily, but you can't ignore the direction this is going. If FSU doesn't jump, within two years Fisher and much of this staff will be gone.

  • We need to keep emailing the bot and the president.

  • Here's what I don't get: why doesn't FSU simply inform ACC they are going to look at other conferences? Would a disclosure of sorts cover tampering issues? We don't have to formally withdraw first do we?

Absolutely. Until a deal is announced, you should continue to let them know where you stand and what outcome you think will benefit the university and alumni the most.

  • It shows an alliance between the two conferences.

The big10 & pac 12 already have an alliance. They vote lock step with each other.

    Our ACC ally is...?

  • The Big 12 was never going to die and fall apart. The core of that conference are the most football crazed people in this country. FSU needs to join. FSU, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Clemson would make for an incredible addition to the Big 12.

  • So this is pretty much how things shape up now.

Big 12, PAC 12, B1G and SEC will send top rated teams to the 4 team playoffs and 2nd best teams to face each other.

So in most years the top 8 post season payouts will be retained within those conferences and a highly reduced window for all others to get one member in.

The ACC champ would likely be facing a 3rd best team from another league in most years.....trying selling that to recruits.

What happens to theSugar and Fiesta?? Hmmm, interesting! Looks like the smart guys are eyeballing all the money these bowls make and saying "mine now suckas".

I suspect they will get the bowl game in alternating years unless jerry's world horns in on the action. Then maybe 1 out of every 3 years.

the cotton bowl is now SEC- Big 12

  • IMO it's very plausible that the very deal where the SEC is hitching their wagon (or at least partnering) with any conference would only be done under the conditions where the SEC already had confirmation/knowledge that the B12 is expanding & improving. Otherwise, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the SEC, which is clearly the #1 CFB conference ATM, to partner with anyone.

My understanding is that, legally, a school can't talk about moving without already having been invited. Yes, this makes no sense, but I think it's actually how the contracts are written.

  • "If you're not in the Big Four, you're not big time. That means you, Miami and Florida State, who suddenly have a huge decision to make. Remain outside the Big Four with the ACC making $17 million per year in a league that can't compete for a national championship, or take your valuable brands and petition for entry into the Big 12.

Based on Friday's announcement – the two biggest football names in the ACC could soon be making $25 million a year in the Big 12.

And if that happens, the ACC becomes a whole lot less desirable to a Notre Dame that has to be thinking seriously about joining a conference. Put it this way: ND's isn't going to get better access when the four-team playoff debuts in 2014.

Why not just cut to the chase? Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame to the Big 12. Even the other members of the Big Four (SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12) would have take notice that potential earning power."

The 25 million will be a low number.

On Monday, Swofford plan to respond with a huge announcement of a new ACC bowl alliance with Conference USA. While it will be revealed the revenues for this game are already included in the new ESPN deal, it will be available as a PPV on many digital formats.

  • It all sets up nicely for the playoff...agreement goes into place at the end of BCS contract and ND TV deal with NBC. ND deal would keep them out of any conference atp even the Big12.

There are a lot more pieces to this including keeping these games going (Clemson / South Carolina), (Georgia / Georgia Tech), (Florida / Florida State). And the return of (Texas / a&m), (Kansas / Misery). All these games are necessary for the schools, plus it could bring in huge $$$ for everyone.

Chuck Neinas (interim Big 12 commisioner) said today that the bowl game is getting bid out to the highest bidder and will not be a traveling bowl game. Therefore I put big odds on Cowboys Stadium and Jerry Jones or New Orleans getting the bowl.

Also this bowl will not take the place of the Cotton Bowl or the Sugar Bowl, but actually be added to the bowl rotation and will have no affiliation with the BCS so the conferences will be the ones pocketing all of the money, which means just another way to make sure the Big 12 and SEC make more money than the ACC
