Welcome to the B12 FSU!

  • The Big 12 and Southeastern Conferences have announced a five-year agreement for their football champions to meet in a postseason bowl game following the 2014 season.

    The champions of the two conferences will be in the matchup unless one or both are selected to play in the new four-team model to determine the national championship. Should that occur, another deserving team from the conference(s) would be selected for the game.

    "A new January bowl tradition is born," said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. "This new game will provide a great matchup between the two most successful conferences in the BCS era and will complement the exciting postseason atmosphere created by the new four-team model. Most importantly, it will provide our student-athletes, coaches and fans with an outstanding bowl experience."

    "Our goal is to provide the fans across the country with a New Year's Day prime-time tradition," commented acting Big 12 Conference Commissioner Chuck Neinas. "This is a landmark agreement between two of the most successful football conferences during the BCS era to stage a postseason event. The creation of this game featuring the champions of the Big 12 and SEC will have tremendous resonance in college football."

    "I am very excited by the prospects for a game between our champion and the champion of the Southeastern Conference," added incoming Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby.

    During the 14-year history of the Bowl Championship Series, the Big 12 and SEC lead the nation with 11 seasons in which each conference has had at least one team ranked in the top four of the final BCS standings. Both conferences share the top spot all-time with 14 teams each that have finished in the top four of the final BCS standings. The two conferences have combined for 16 appearances in the BCS National Championship Game, with the Big 12 ranking second behind the SEC's nine appearances with seven trips to the National Championship Game.

    The two league champions have met twice in BCS bowl games since 1998, both in BCS National Championship Games. In 2010, Alabama defeated Texas, 37-21, in Pasadena, Calif., and in 2009, Florida defeated Oklahoma, 24-14, in Miami, Fla.

    Specific details, including host site(s), will be announced at a later date.

  • Yeah, this looks like a done deal now. I've been trying to stay out of most of the rumors, or at least trying to take them with a grain of salt, but if this isn't telling then I don't know what is.

    This Big 12-SEC bowl agreement creates another financial tier, as it'll be a cash cow. 1) Playoff. 2) Rose/New Bowl 3) Orange/Fiesta/etc.

  • I want to go to the BigXII, but I feel like this means nothing. So the best teams from the SEC and BigXII will play each other if they aren't in the 4-team playoff. Well, it is pretty much a guarantee that at least 1 if not both of these conferences will have a team in that playoff. Essentially meaning the best teams that are not in the playoff will play each other. Seems like a great game to watch, but still don't see what it has to do with a playoff.

    Florida State’s move to the Big 12 is inevitable, all my sources assure me that both Clemson and FSU are safely in the Big 12’ net, but I can’t help but shake the feeling that the longer Eric Barron can resist pressure from his Board of Trustees the more he would like to find a reason to stay in the ACC.

  • What happens in cases like 2009 where the Texas and Bama are in the NC game but the next best Big 12 is Ok St. ranked #19 to go up against UF@G at #5? Do they do like the Rose and pick the best matchup of #6 Boise St at 13-0? Oregon and Ohio St were ranked 7 and 8 and played in the Rose. Georgia Tech at #9. Who plays in New Bowl in 09?

    Cincinnati and TCU were in the top 4 with Texas and Bama.

    Yep. I love my Seminoles, but if we fail to move to the Big 12 when they obviously want our school so bad, we deserve whatever fate awaits us. It seems the Big 12 conference and most all of the fan bases associated with the Big 12 want us and welcome us with open arms, something I can say I've never felt in the ACC.

  • If we don't make the move I will begin the likely 10 year process of de-loving FSU. I would basically have to stop cold turkey and never mention anything FSU again and after ten years I think my heart might not love the Noles. I hope I don't have to initiate that process.

  • On Monday, Swofford plan to respond with a huge announcement of a new ACC bowl alliance with Conference USA. While it will be revealed the revenues for this game are already included in the new ESPN deal, it will be available as a PPV on many digital formats.

    The next best team from that conference would play in the bowl game. Only SEC vs Big 12, teams from outside those conferences would be ineligible for that bowl game.This new deal is pretty much assuring that the Big 12, and possibly the SEC are going to expand, which would guarantee great match-ups.

    This game will be revenue split, and it will bring in a ton of money. I'm an SEC and have been keeping up with the talk. They will likely send out RFP's for the game, which means a current bowl (Sugar, Cotton, etc.) will likely not get it unless they cut their percentage dramatically. The Big 12 is giving more financial incentive for teams to make the move.

    (This was supposed to be in response to the person who posted about why this game makes a difference. My apologies for not quoting.)

  • I simply can't wrap my brain around why any Nole fan would want to stay in ACC. There is now mountain of evidence that points to the ACC being irrelevant going forward. Might as well be the MAC at this point.

    The Big12, from life support a few seasons ago, to a cash cow...not only is the Big12 getting more money but so is the SEC which means UF's share will go up and could outspend FSU by even more. This doubles the reasons for FSU to join us (Texas) in the Big12.

    Looks more and more like its happening, welcome.
