We didn't lose today because...

  • of injuries, bad luck, or bad officiating.

We lost because when plays mattered most on defense, we blew it. Worst penalties I have ever seen, dropped INTs, muffed blocked punts, and terrible LBs in coverage. Well coached teams don't do what we did today. I don't know what this says about Stoops; this could have been a fluke game but I get the feeling last week may have been the fluke.

I can't believe it, but I almost wish Bradham would have left for the draft last April. Between him and Vince Williams, I get very frustrasted.

  • you are right. We lost because of coaching. I might get murdered for this, but our coaches are great recruiters and right now I'm questioning their coaching. Forget about having a good offense and a good defense in one season, I'd take having a complete offense or defense for a season. Last year's the wr's were not good and the oline was, this year complete opposite. This really is depressing. We really just look like a poorly coached team. We have sooooooooo much talent on this team and it's not producing.

  • Mind-numbing penalties. The PI penalty on Parks was bogus, but Clemson gave us one of those later. Unbelievable, I think on every TD drive they had, maybe with one exception, we had a penalty on 3rd or 4th down that kept their drive alive after a stop. You just can't do that and expect to win games period.

We've made a habit of doing this in big games, where we just keep giving teams chances to kill us. It's like they are out of bullets in a revolver, and we hand them the shotgun. Sorry and I feel miserable saying this, but unfortunately, it looks like same old inconsistent FSU on offense and defense.

  • I think you are right and let's give Bowden his due for scheduling OU home and home with the product he was putting on the field. I think Trickett has to go no real progress in the last few years. Oh by the way Kansas State is starting RSFR at center, RDSOPH at guard, True Fresham at the other guard and seems to run the ball even when they new it was coming. 8-4 maybe 9-3 so dissapponting and i don't ant to hear any shit about the fans not coming to the games from Jimbo. Win something meaningful before you call us out again!!!!!!

  • Anyone who "murders" you on this is not credible. Dont worry about it. The whole seminole nation should be nothing less than pissed off. Besides the overall play of trickett, the only positive thing i saw all day was actually when joyner got called for ruffing the kicker. He had a running into the kicker penalty and the next punt he had the guts to go right back after his ass. Awesome attitude. I could say a lot about the game but the bottom line is coaching.

  • we lost because we have no run game, with a run game the defense isn't on the field as much and our offense isnt as predictable

Honestly, this is how I feel, and stupid penalties killing any sort of stops when had on 3rd downs(and by upperclassmen no less).

  • our WR's are one of the best positional units on the team. They and Trickett single handily kept us in the game.

    Correct

  • Well we have the week off and we will hear about all the studs they recruiting!!! then we get to play who Duke, Wake Forest......oh i can't wait!! what will be the over and under on the rush yards? I am going with 75 maybe and at least 10 penalties for 100yds!!

    Chuckknows

  • I think the OP is right but you can't throw all those other things out the window they had an impact on the game for sure. I think injuries to the D had the most impact and even though Clint played very well I think the O would have moved the ball a little better with EJ just cause he can run the ball.

    fsuis1

  • We sure seemed to have a lot of penalties in key situations.

    fsukum

  • We definitely missed EJ, Reid and Reed. And then Rhodes and Spurlock.
What perplexes me is that we rarely ran the ball except for the wildcat. I kept thinking that maybe they would show it and then pass or pitch out of it.
Disappointed in this game on both sides of the ball.
Props to Clint, he was in a tough situation.

With a slight semblance of a run game, the pass rush isn't as fierce either.

  • I am getting use to Nigel and his undisciplined play once again he didnt let me down.

    trunolefan

  • Trickett and the WR's stepped up big today. Super proud of those fellas, and as bad as we ragged on our OL, they did do a good job in pass pro.

Run blocking is simply a mentality of getting after your man. Hudson and McMahon had that. Their replacements don't have it yet.

    alanole82

  • I'll tell you who else had a nice game - Chris Thompson. He didn't get many opportunities, and when he did they were seemingly all out of that uber-predictable wildcat formation, but he ran hard and picked up some tough yards. I was glad to see him back as the starter. I think that's a small step in the right direction, anyway

  • We should be better than what we are showing right now. We are clearly better than where we were under Bobby, and we're recruiting with the best of them, but when the dust settles on this season, we'll probably be a 8 or 9 win team with a loss at UF. Losing big games at home, losing at Clemson, these are the things we could have kept Bobby around for.

Clemson's offense rolled our defense, and it shouldn't be that way. It's not like Jimbo and Stoops were left a bunch of 2-stars dwarves to coach up on defense. 5 and 4 star upperclassmen, from McDaniel to Bradham to Reid to Williams to Jenkins--yet we gave up all of those points.

I'm not calling for heads. Not even close to it, but I lost a lot of faith today. At the start of this year, I was sure we were in a better position than UF. Right now I think they beat us by 24.

How does Charlie Weis turn around that horseshit offense in one offseason, yet five years into Jimbo/Trickett/Dawsey, our offense is inconsistent from week to week. Think we can go on the road to Kentucky and put up 50 points? Fuck no.

    aivlys

  • Jimbo needs to give up playcalling and hire an offensive coordinator. He has too much on his plate. I also think we need to hire an offensive line coach who has the same philosophy as Jimbo. It's frustrating that we can't have an entire offense be good in one season. Last year the WR's were the liability and the offensive line was good, this year it is the exact opposite.

    otown nole29245

  • Every team has new starters and different positions, and freshmen that start, and weaknesses to cover. EVERY TEAM!!!!!!!!! LAst year we blamed the WRs, now we blame the interior OL. Next year it will be the offensive tackles. That's college football! Having a new starting QB and new coordinator isn't hurting Clemson, is it?

I get so sick of the excuses. You can always find a position with new players, so the excuse is always there. Or just blame the mean ACC officials and schedule makers. How dare they make us play at Clemson the week after playing Oklahoma? Shit, look at Clemson's schedule. Then look at Bama's. Then look at LSU's. Sometimes college football is hard.

Was this post directed at me? If it was I have no idea what prompted it because I essentially said exactly what you said in a much calmer tone.

    otown nole29245

  • Not really. Just anybody who makes any excuses for being 2-2 with our two wins being against crap opponents. As far as I am concerned, there is no excuse for what happened today. Had we lost 23-10, I could handle that. But seeing our defense get worked like it was 2009 all over again was about the last thing I expected to see.

Plus, I hate Clemson. I hate UF even more. and more than that I hate knowing that UF is again better than we are. Again. In one offseason, no less.
