Awful. Giving any moderately decent off/def in the ACC a big bump. FSU's 2010 offense was highly ranked because it played a decent set of defenses (in and of itself helping the rankings). They weren't "great" against them, but better than the other ACC offenses that comprised the remainder of the matchups

Makes it very hard to gauge, IMO. It's a self sustaining cycle that can't compensate for this.

BCS teams play 75% of their games against conference foes.When a conference sucks like the Big East or whatever Boise was in, all a team has to do to be ranked highly is be moderately better than rest of the conference.

Top 5 defensive S&P for 2010 was Boise, TCU, West Virginia, Ohio State, and Nebraska respectively. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who thinks all those teams are in the top 15 or 20, let alone top 5.

I dunno. I like statistics, but I think smart fans can use stats AND the eyeball test. It's one reason why you think the OL is so awful while others don't see it so dire.
