Thoughts on UM coming with us (if we go) to the big 12?

  • I am for it. Much better than the sec pickups of A&M and the big 10 reject Mizzou. Um draws many more viewers than either one.

    TNOLE27

  • I think best case scenario for FSU would be having GT or UL, Clem, and Miami come along with us to the Big 12. East-West divisions and everybody can shut up about having to travel too far.

  • I like our rivalry with Miami and hope they end up in any conference we go to. I look fwd to beating them senseless for the 5 years or more.

    NoleDude

  • We are going to play them every year anyway....if they are in conference then we dont kill a OOC game every year....of course we will schedule some no body for it...but it is a home game

    thebear612

  • I say eff 'em. Leave them out of the B12 and play them every other year home and home and play FIU in the off years to keep us in Miami every other year.

If Miami collapsed FSU would reap massive rewards in recruiting and we'd have a similar recruiting advantage as Texas.

  • Those of you who think Miami will collapse are not thinking straight. Miami has a place in college football and will forever be able to tread water. In the words of my uncle "That ship aint sankin"

  • screw them. Miami brings nothing to the table. Their days of championship football are over. The people who still want them are the nostalgic types who think this is still the mid 90's. I would love to keep them in the ACC. They will sink deeper into the abyss.

If FSU and Clemson go B12 then Miami is more screwed than words can describe and they will basically only be able to sign kids who are scared to fly in planes.

  • We don't need Miami. I'm not worried about what happens to them.

Totally agree with this. FSU would absolute kill it in SoFla recruiting and that carries a ton of weight with me personally. Sometimes you leave rivals (especially a secondary one like UM) behind and don't extend a life raft to them

  • Yall are nuts. Keeping Miami decent with us as a rivalry hurts UF. If yall want top kids to only choose between an SEC UF and us in the Big 12 playing mostly non-southern kids, yall are nuts. We need Miami with us even if they become the clear cut third best option in FL behind us and UF. We still add a rivalry UF cannot in recruiting. Even with bad teams, FSU/Miami killed the ratings. Don't forget that! It is very valuable to FSU to keep FSU/Miami as the teams for all south Florida kids and keep UF and the SEC at bay. There is a reason UF was the third best team in the state for so long. The FSU/Miami rivalry meant more than any UF game or the SEC for decades. Don't let that disappear now! We will always have the recruiting advantage over Miami in the same conference. If Miami is dead, we my have a harder time beating UF out for kids when all their games are in the south and most of our conference games are in the midwest. Just saying.....

Miami is a joke of a school with a terrible fan base and stadium that sits about 45 min from campus, not to mention the NCAA hasnt even dropped the hammer on them yet. A&M and Missouri at least have solib fanbases and A&M was a very solid pickup for the SEC, they could easly be the top team in the ACC if they had went there. I hope yall move to the ACC with Clemson like rumored, they we will see if yall keep Miami on the schedule. And it will be fun watching yall have to atcually play a respectable schedule. Right now as it sits they're isnt another team in the ACC with the talent level of yall. You have outrecruted every team in the ACC, and its not even close, no ACC teams recruit top 10 classes every year. So the move to the Big 12 will even the playing field, and lord knows it will fun fun to watch.. But knowing yall you will stay in the ACC and not step up to the challenge, its kinda like when fine girls get with these low life guys so they can keep that position of power.. Except we know FSU aint won ish in yrsss

  • I am tired of propping Miami up. If the Big XII wants them. fine, but under no circumstances should we be suggesting/demanding their inclusion as well. Let them sink or swim on their own.

And I won't lose sleep if they remain in the ACC and we no longer play them. Times change, and they're the past. We have to be part of the future.

  • I am torn. I love the rivalry and don't want to lose it, that means either UM comes with us or we have them as an OOC game every year (which as has been written, Jimbo won't likely go for that). It would also please me to see them die a slow death in a FSU and Clemson-less ACC. They would slip to USF-like mediocrity.

Nirvananole brings up important recruiting points to consider as well.

And yet we have been beating UF and even Alabama in recent years.

A couple of counter points and disagreements. First, most recruits do not come to a school specifically because of who we play. Kids from miami do not sign with FSU because we will play in Miami twice in their career. Kids want to be on tv, they want to play in front of big crowds. If they want their parents to come see them play, they can come to tally and watch them play. I doubt many kids base their decision on a twice in a college career thing. With that in mind, FSU-OU, FSU-Tex, FSU-WVU would be HUGE rating games, much better than our one game vs Miami would give. The Miami game doesnt have the same meaning to the national audience it once did. Once again, this seemingly "need for Miami to be good" is based on nostalgia and is not grounded in any sense of current reality.

If FSU leaves the ACC and drops UM from it's schedule, UM is in BIG trouble. Who will they fill that void with? We fill ours with OU, Texas, WVU and other big name teams. We will still likely keep UF on the schedule since that game means more to us than the Miami one does. Keep something in mind. UM just signed a multi-game series agreement with FAU in which UM will actually travel to FAU. Think about that for a moment. This tells you how low that program has fallen in recent years. Can you imagine FSU traveling to ULM or another sunbelt team?

In summary, UM needs us to stay. We dont need them. In fact, leaving them would put us in better position with recruits since UM will continually drop and become less and less attractive to big time recruits.

    sdawgfather

  • I will miss that game if we stop the series. I love talking smack with those um fans. I know we don't need the series but damn, that is always a fun game for the fans...

    NoleDude

  • I think y'all are nuts. I would be pissed to lose the annual UM match. This game is a staple of our tradition. Let's not be like the Gaters and wuss out on a legendary matchup.

The best scenario is going to the big 12 w UM, GT, CLEM.

    Jadaway

  • Maybe if we leave them and their program wastes away in the new basketball-ACC they will become so mediocre it would be no big thing keeping them on as an annual OOC game.shrug

Gt adds nothing. Va tech would be the best. I think Louisville would be better than GT. I think NC st would be better than GT although they are never leaving the ACC.

I agree that keeping UM would be beneficial. Also, UM doesn't need us to be good. Their demise was exaggerated in the late '90s. They sit int he 2nd most talent rich area in the country. They will be fine.

As to sanctions, after seeing the slap on the wrist oh st got, I don't think Um loses more than 15 scholarships.

    TNOLE27

  • I hope they come with us. Would hate to see the rivalry go away.

    EnterTheOcho

  • I look forward to the UM game every year.

My ideal conf would be a big 16 with adding fsu, um, clem, gt, vt, louisville. Would love to add Notre Dame instead of louisville, but doubt that would happen.

    Snowl82

  • We'd be stupid to let the Miami game die. Jmo.

It's a marquee matchup for FSU even if neither school is ranked highly, which means good attendance and money.

It's an opportunity to play a game in Miami every other year. That's great for fans and recruits alike. I think it'd be a huge mistake to take this game away.

Is it 100% necessary to keep playing Miami? Maybe not. Is it most likely beneficial? Probably.
