Thoughts on Phil Steele picking FSU to finish No.1?

  • That's balls of Steele right there with that prediction.

    I think there's a 7.76% chance that it happens (sarcasm on the %). I'm not sold on the OL yet. I'm cautiously optimistic on them being above-average this season, but I don't think that the unit is a National Championship caliber line.

    Everything else on the team I'm sold on. I think EJ is 'good-enough' with good protection, and a run game that ranks somewhere in the Top 50. That's going to be the key to all of this.

    I think we finish somewhere in the 6-10 range in the final polls, and ACC champions.

    What are your thoughts?

    Offense. It's time for Jimbo to adapt to what we have. If we can't pass block then no 7 step drops. Quick passes and let the athletes make plays. Put EJ in the shot gun and let him do his thing. I expect FSU to win it all.

    I was with you until you said "I expect FSU to win it all." I agree with all your other points though. EJ's greatest asset to our team is his ability to create with his legs, string plays out longer, or pick up yards our running backs can't (b/c of the OL) It's time to sink or swim, run his ass like Tommy Frazier if that's what it takes to put points on the board. No more trying to force a square block into a round hole.

  • He loves our defense and depth defensively. Can't say I disagree. And it's defense that carried LSU this season to the MNC game.

    If our defense is as good as he believes, he could be correct.

    I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but I look at EJ Manuel and see greatness. I do not necessarily know whether his personal qualities will translate to a MNC this year, but it seems like every year he does something on the field which makes me really proud to cheer for him. While I'm probably too jaded to believe in an undefeated season (like in the '90s I was too naive to believe that FSU possibly could lose), with this defense and this QB, I'm inclined to let myself dare to dream come September.

  • I say 10-2 and both losses to teams we should beat but the o-line does not do well and EJ throws a couple of picks. This has been our MO the last 2 years and until it is fixed and stops I see know change......Maybe it stops this year biggrin

    If I was not an FSU fan I would pick us to get to the MNC.

    good qb, very good wr corps, decent rb's and a should be adequate ol considering the schedule.

    best defense in the country. best dl by far, yes, including LSU. arguably a top 3 secondary and top 10 lb corps.

    Our schedule is CAKE,CAKE,CAKE.

    Clemson? a couple of good wf's that's it. erratic qb, 3 new ol, best dl's gone, soft dc.-IMHO the most overrated coordinator in college football.

    uf? no offensive weapons. I don't care how much 1 year under chris peterson helps an oc.

    Um is down and young. Everyone else? they suck. Yes, also VT. 3 offensive starters back.

    There is no excuse for us to lose a game. I actually think FSU v. USC in the mnc game. Oregon lost too much to beat USC.

    It's the trip not necessarily the destination.
    Enjoy the trip, it's going to be fun now that we are back in the NC picture again.
    That is what makes college football fun for me anyway,
