This site and the downvote button

  • I think it would be a better site without one. I am all for the upvote as it functions as a "like" in FB. But the downvote is just not a good idea in my opinion.

  • Down votes are great so instead of people feeling the need to post constantly to disagree with people or argue you can just down vote them. I wish I had more! It's a good feedback mechanism so posters know when they are out of line.

  • I like it, think it provides a small incentive to not post stupid crap. The key is 247 gives us far fewer down votes than up votes which prevents people from abusing it. The ability to down and up vote along with the ignore function are two best innovations that 247 has over their competitors. Imo the next thing they need to figure out is how to blank it out when someone you are ignoring is quoted by someone you aren't.

    But what would all the 9 year olds do with themselves? The trick is to get downvoting groupies. What is really pathetic is there is an ignore button but some posters appear to be incapable of accepting the fact other think differently and therefore insist on downvoting in lieu of ignoring.

    Personally, I would never care enough to exert the effort to downvote. Admittedly, i do have 8 or 9 posters on ignore. Again, i do not care enough to wade through their posts.

    I have tried to downvote my own posts to add to my cyber cred but it doesn't work.

  • And this will be the reason I leave this site. I like the publishers, the content, and most of the posters. But a simple post like this shows the true colors of this site.

    If you have enough guts to downvote then have enough guts to put your name on it. Then I know who my enemies are. Otherwise just hide behind the silent downvotes.

    Just learn to not give a care about downvotes.

    I learned it from another forum where "rep" power ruled. In the end you just have to realize this is your online "reputation" which isn't a reflection of what/who your are in real life. These people have no idea who you are and hide beyond their keyboards, just say fck them and post your mind.

    But I guess you missed the reason for the post. I was simply stating that in my opinion the down vote is a dumb feature. If you disagree with a post you should say why you disagree and we can debate. No winners no losers just debate. Both sides of the story.

    Let me get this straight--you're going to leave a great site, with great features, and solid reporting because your delicate sensibilities can't handle having people you don't know hitting a button that has absolutely no bearing on your life in any way, shape, or form?

    People say all type of things behind the computer screen that they would never say to someone face to face.
    Me, I just put people on ignore.....but down votes are part of the deal. If it bothers you that much don't post.

  • I am far from irrational or over sensitive. I am fairly new to this site but have been a member of another site for years with thousands of posts, some of you know me from there. Same username. What makes that site great is the people and the conversations. We all have argued with each other and some times they become heated but it is all there in black and white. I feel like I have entered the political correctness site and a simple post about my opinion on one of the features (which I have heard echoed by other posters) becomes a thread about my my fragile ego and my sensibilities. I will take you down votes with a grain of salt and work hard to get to a 0 rating. Let's hope we can all just be friends and sing Kumbaya on NSD.

    Especially when someone repeatedly whines, moans, and bitches about a particular coach or position group.
