Things I can't imagine happening

  • •The SEC participating in a 4-conference playoff system where its 2nd best team is locked out of the tourney
•A national championship system that essentially locks out FSU, Clemson, Miami, VaTech, Georgia Tech, Pitt, BC and UNC.
•FSU joining a conference where the closest team is a 16-hour drive away.
•Notre Dame joining a conference because it's their only pathway to a national title--they will always be able to write their own ticket
•Miami becoming truly irrelevant in football

    What I CAN imagine happening:

•FSU in a stunning, unexpected move, joining the SEC, where it truly belongs
•The whole game of football changing in response to emerging information about brain injuries so that we won't care nearly as much about our beloved gladiatorial pastime
•The implementation of an 8-team playoff including the ACC champ, and FSU staying in the ACC

I have no insider knowledge, but I think FSU is going to stay in the ACC, and if you told me a crystal ball showed FSU was going to switch conferences, I'd put money on the SEC. I think they're more likely to start wanting us than we are to find the Big 12 a viable option.

    Warm up to that one.

  • We aren't going to the SEC, ever. Get over it.

  • All of those things you can't imagine happening are going to happen except ND to a conference.

I'd imagine you're very, very wrong.

Well, you know, that'd be awesome if I am.

I'd love to see us in the Big 12.

Still would rather see us in the SEC, and while I realize that is not on the table, things can change. It's like in politics, where a "can't lose" candidate can find himself, 2 weeks later, literally out of the race. Unforeseen things happen, and nobody can predict them--that's why they're, you know, unforeseen.

  • I wouldnt say that...if the big 12 talks really heat up the SEC is going to take a second look at options and most schools sans 4 are going to want FSU. Questions is will 1 of the 4 cave.

the sec will get its 2nd team shut out as often as the 2nd place the big 10 and big 12 teams over a given 10 year period. Then the sec will bitch about the system

Whether the SEc wants FSU boils down to whether it wants to maximize payout. I am not going to rehash the absurdity of the geographic footprint. If not, it will stay at 14 for a while. There isn't a team out there the it willing to some to the SEc that will make the SEc money. no, not vt, nc st will not it money just like mizzou. Yes, Mizzou costs the SEC money b/c Mizzou does not pay for itself in the tv contracts. Actually, neither does A&M for that matter.

  • TAMU and Mizzou are irrelevant in CF.
Viewers who are not fans of those 2 schools will not turn their TV sets to view their games period.

you have a good point although auburn is a very, very junior player in the discussion.

The argument that you will weaken uf does not work b/c we already weaken uf by getting top talent in the state. However, if we do come back while in the big 12 will create problems for the SEC.

do they need us to survive.? of course not.

however, with a very big national audience it may help having us in order to get cable outlets in seattle. la, chicago etc to pick up the sec network.

Ps. is the sec going to garunetee uf 10 million so it can at least break even on its tier 3 rights. I don't see the SEC network making 140 million a year.
