This isn't great news, not only because Maryland is leaving, but because Rutgers was the school I wanted the ACC to pursue as a 16th team if we ever convinced Notre Dame to join in football.
UConn replacing Maryland is completely unacceptable. The ACC needs to put the full-court press on Louisville ASAP before the Big 12 expands to add them. They're the only decent football program that would be left.

Bryan Fischer @BryanDFischer
By the way, Under Armour CEO/Maryland booster Kevin Plank is cashing out $65 million of stock. ACC exit fee is $50m. http://bit.ly/T38yAT

I agree -- FSU needs to be looking to move quickly at this point.
SEC/Big 12 both are equally desirable...
Problems with "ACC powerhouses"... (as I see it):
Clemson = Peaking over last few seasons. Currently our biggest recruiting threat. Head coach is pretty good....Offense much easier to stop with time, so will generally perform worse in bowl games. Recruiting kids to area is hard, undesirable location... (peak possible season = undefeated, with likely bowl loss)
Miami = Became a powerhouse because of cheating and violating NCAA rules... Coach has some potential. Unlikely to return to "power house" status, without cheating... Murder/crime rate make area undesirable to send college kid... but city may be popular with some intercity kids (peak possible season = 2 loss minimum)
Virginia Tech = Became a powerhouse due to Mike Vick and fantastic DL recruiting.... DL is still consistently good, but Beamer's offensive scheme is consistently terrible, short of a single play-maker taking the game over (vick style)...rural area, terrible mountain weather, undesirable for most southern athletes (peak possible season = 2 loss minimum)
Georgia Tech = Dependable for 1 good year out of every 4... in which their gimmicky offense looks good vs. non-top 25 defenses... Gimmicky offense is easy to prepare for with time, so unlikely to be successful in bowl games. Murder/crime rate make area undesirable to send college kid... but city may be popular with some intercity kids .. (peak possible season = 2 loss minimum)

Not positive he really knows 'for sure', but ffnole's stance certainly makes sense for anyone that has been paying any attention whatsoever to this song & dance routine over the past couple of years and where our Prez has continuously stood within that time period.
