Suspensions at Miami

  • Henderson and Cain

Seantrel Henderson, Two Others, Suspended at Miami | College Football News, Opinion and Analysis | Chuck Oliver.Net

Miami right tackle Seantrel Henderson, linebacker Kelvin Cain and cornerback Keion Payne have been suspended through the weekend for violating team rules, coach Al Golden said.

  • Suspended for a whole weekend of spring practice? Man, they are really cracking down in Miami.

  • I also note that Golden seems most upset that his players are spending all their time smoking the weed they are growing there instead of chipping in and watering the weed from time to time as well:

"It is disappointing," Golden said. "I think it's disappointing for the team to be honest with you. You can't just weed all of the time. If you're just constantly weeding and that's the problem. When you're trying to improve the program and move forward, you can't just weed the program. You've got to water your garden, too."

    That's just selfish.

  • Never understood the practice suspension. Does a kid really care if he misses a few practices? This is not a deterrent at All!

  • I'll be honest.....i thought Seantrel transfered out of there last year.

  • Seantrel loves the weed. Second suspension for it.

  • I remember when cane fans were trying to say Keion was better than Joyner, because he was the starting corner and Joyner was the safety. Now they want Keion gone from the team whil LJ is an ALL-ACC performer

Allen Iverson did not care about practice. Ask him...

  • So their "punishment" for smoking weed is being rewarded with getting the weekend off? Real disciplinarian al golden is.

Man I hope your just joking. If you go back and read the article correctly it wasn't about smoking weed. It was about getting players on the same page and his reference to weed was about cutting players on the team if they're not on the same page.

some Cane fans interpret the article the same way..... 2 of the 3 were suspended last year for weed.... it isn't far fetched that he meant it both ways....

  • I graduated the same year as Seantrel, and went to a rival school in the same conference. Seantrel has ALL the talent in the world, but anybody on my team could have told you that he had a high bust potential. Sure, his highlight tape is pretty incredible, but he did not consistently dominate in football (and even basketball), the way that he absolutely should have(The competition in Minnesota is just awful, we produce MAYBE 10 D1 prospects a year).

I can remember him in 9th grade at pretty much his same mammoth size, lining up at nose against our center who was lucky to be 180, and Seantrel really didn't do anything all game.

Now that he's having all these off the field problems, all I can do is shake my head in disgust. What a waste of God given talent!

  • Fwiw and the joking makes sense on the surface but one of the ways Golden actually does fit Miami's brand is in his insane valuation of practice. The man would sit a super star, if ever gets one, for a bad 5-8 day stretch of practice.

Sitting kids from practice with him is like saying for those days you are guaranteed to fall on the depth chart and the first day back you'll be lucky if you even start working your way back.

  • Not shocking that he is a bust. One of my buddies here in Ohio was on the OSU staff that recruited him. The stories about why he was going to USC and then ended up at Miami are amazing. His dad is a real piece of work.

Every coach values practice. Look at Jimbo with how much he wants the IPF. I think Golden just uses his coach speak about practice to a whole new level.

I'm still not buying the hype that they are on some whole other level of practicing. Every coach tries to upsell it to his players to some extent to get the best out of them so he can watch and see who will be the best during the season. It makes his job much easier about filling out the depth chart if everyone goes full intensity.

  • If you guys didn't know, Golden has changed how colllege football programs are run. He actually uses practice, to get this evaluate his players and his team. Ive heard he has this book he made with what plays they do and stuff. Just to go to another level he uses these "practices" to work on these "plays". When the players arent at practice or school, they have this "u tough" program where they workout and lift weights. They are the only football program to ever attempt such a novel concept. Dont get me started about his recruiting. Actually writing down lists of players he wants, genious

    sdawgfather

  • I've even heard he has a white board where they put most wants on it. Using different color markers, just advanced technology and innovative thinking by the um staff.
