  • Now saying that we had a "budget gap or disconnect" between what the Boosters said they could give FSU and what FSU Athletics budgeted for - this is his explanation for why a couple months ago they predicted a couple million dollar budget shortfall for next year. Now apparently the budget is balanced for next year. TIFWIW.

  • Athletic dept. had $1.5MM reserve that the Boosters is "holding for them". They were going to use that $ to paint Doak, etc. Instead they are borrowing from the reserves to cover some (or all) of the budget shortfall for next year. They plan to replenish this reserve in the coming year(s).

    Looks like we'll be without improvements to Doak in the near future.

  • Looking at pricing increases for tickets, etc. to replenish the reserve. [smh]

  • Either one of two things are occurring here. Either this is the most elaborate attempt yet by any school to show that a school "isn't looking" to move to another conference, or we (the school administration) really want to stay in the ACC. Badly.

    Both annoy me.

  • Thanks for posting. Now talking about something with scheduling the IPF.

  • It is pretty apparent to me that Haggard's got his agenda, but as of right now you're right, we don't know whether he's a lone wolf on this crusade or if he's got other support to explore options. Listening to most of this meeting I feel most definitely that Barron has Spetman in lock-step and toeing the President's line. Barron doesn't want to go anywhere, that is clear, and Spetman's presentation did everything but blow kisses at the ACC. He made it a point to note the following:

    1. Larger payout than expected from ACC this year that helped our budget shortfall - and that doesn't include "new" TV contract money;
    2. We'll be getting more home games in BBall (not sure why) and Duke, UNC, etc. all sell out at home and help generate revenue;
    3. Adding Pitt and Syracuse will mean more conference games and that means we don't have to go out and find "non-conference" teams to pay-to-play - saving us $.

    A few weeks ago, maybe a month, the Atlanta Journal Constitution did an article on Richt's new contract and the incentives in it. They also wrote about the athletic surplus that was somewhere around ~$77 million.

  • So FSU wants fans to pay more for football tickets? There is only (2) home game I am using my season tickets for. The rest I will probably donate.

    I am not paying more for our trash of a home schedule.

    Adding Pitt and Cuse means we play 9 conference games and lose scheduling one out of conference game, which means in some years we lose a home game, which means less revenue.

    Barron is about staying in the ACC, but all his arguments are lame and not in the best interest of FSU. Barron is not arguing in FSU's best interest.

    I agree with the last two, but not up to speed on what's going on with Doak.

    Well, just the talk of pianing it, which appears to be put on hold for now?

    I know they had a firm come in an look at ways of improving the concourse/concesions/bathrooms last year, but that is probably a long ways off. There has also been talk and research put into a chairback seating section in the south endzone and extending it down from the club. That too is probably a long ways off, but would provide more revinue.

    Where do we stand on the players dorms?

  • If we received $2M more from the ACC than expected and we had a deficit of $2.4M, why do we need to take $1.5M from the Doak re-painting reserve? Spetman is a clown.

  • The math doesn't add up. Who is driving the clown car? It is no wonder why the budget is or was in the hole.

    It wasn't clear whether they were taking the $1.5MM in reserves, or just tapping into it. My best guess would be that they are just tapping into the reserves for the "shortfall".

    Whether he "created" them or not, he's the athletic director and they occurred on his watch.

    It's not so much creating them as how they are being handled....which is to say poorly.

    You know who has great home games? Washington State. So does Vanderbilt. And Mississippi State.

    We have had lots of big and exciting games over the past decade. We lost many of them. Would you prefer to see us start winning 11-12 games again so we can get our feet under us, or would you prefer we continue losing exciting games at home?

    FSU fans (in general) need to remember 2 things about Barron -

    1. He's an academic, and academic's aren't fans of athletic interests. They still believe athletic conferences in today's world matter to academics.

    2. He's from U.of.Texas, where he was a dean. He knows how his former college is, and how they "act", and now that he's "away from it", doesn't want the current school he's now President of, involved "in that". Not saying he's right, just pointing out his viewpoint.

    THOSE 2 reasons, are Barron's driving force in HIS mind.

    (FWIW, I think on this particular issue, he's a fool)

    If you are correct he is allowing his personal bias to influence what is best for Seminole athletics.
