I agree 100% need more asians and latino's on the staff ...... dont we

Sure. Are there any? Is Chan Gailey Asian? Norm Chow? He's good. Does Coley count as Latino? I think he's at least part Cuban. His coffee is, I think.

Yes, not great but very good. He is the yen to Napier's yang. Good recruiter, very good and very very experienced coach.

I think Napier was a great hire. This is probably a decent to good hire. Not sure we'll ever be able to objectively measure his performance as a position coach, but if Jimbo likes him, that's fine.

P.S., any brothas left on staff now? Just Odell? We probably need to add some more diversity in the next round of replacements, if possible.

Do you know of any good brothas that are currently Offensive Coordinators that would come to FSU ??

Nope. I don't keep up on other coaching staffs, though.

I should clarify that I am a white guy. I just value diversity on a college football staff.

  • I can't believe no one has mentioned that randy sanders first game as offensive coordinator was against FSU in the fiesta bowl for the first BCS championship.

The 32 hour drive home after losing that game was brutal. Now I know how our opponents must have nightmares from hearing the warchant a bazillion times. Rocky top haunted me.

I am a white guy also. I just believe that our OC situation was not properly addressed with these new hires. I don't want any more NC States to pop up because we didn't play to win and played not to lose. I admire Jimbo for the job he has done replacing Bowden but he needs to finish the job by hiring a very good OC; white, black or otherwise. Just my opinion.

I hate you and everything politically correct.

  • I'm excited about this hire

    Chris Knee

  • This could theoretically be a great hire if he is a calm.mature coach who can deal with QBs or help Jimbo,Coley + co. with the offense. He has a lot of experience.

Hate is such a hate word. Very un-PC.

What makes him not great? I see so many people on here acting like they have coached the same level. If he has been a OC at he major level I think he is more than Good. Jmho

  • I don't like this hire. I would have liked to see an established RB coach hired. IMO, Jimbo dropped the ball on this and it seems like a panic hire.

    nolesxtreme

  • I don't understand how this can be viewed as a panic hire. While perhaps not the first option, certainly not a bad one.

  • Will be a good man to have in the room helping put together offensive gameplans....our experience level in that area has greatly improved.....

  • From another UK fans perspective...

Great, great QB's coach. He must have done a pretty good job as RB's coach at UT, but they also had a lot of very good backs there. I'd hope he coaches your QB's, but he will do fine with RB's as long as you recruit well.

One thing I will caution is I heard on a UK site the term phenom recruiter. I'll compare that to something we have a lot of up here which is horse sh_t! Look at our recruiting class rankings over the last 5 years and tell me how many 4 or 5 star players we had. Phenom recruiters can do a little better than what we have had. I'm sure he will do a little better recruiting there than here simply due to the fact that you are Florida St. and we were, well, Kentucky. And if he were a phenom, don't you think he would have gotten a higher paying gig at somewhere other than UK after he left UT? We sucked at football and didn't pay our assistant coaches jack compared to the other major universities at the time.

Anyway, I do wish him luck and hope he does a good job for you all. You deserve something good from UK after what we have gotten from you all.

  • Don't forget gays, transsexuals and transgender....we should be "all in" to this diversity thing like uf, no?!?

    FSURay

  • Preach!!! I think he will be another excellent recruiter and solid position coach tons of experience and he was at UT when they actually had alot of Stud players so i like this hire!!!!! flex

Hey Noles fans, thought I'd give you a little bit of info on Randy from the Kentucky side:

I covered Randy during his entire tenure at Kentucky and he's a pretty quality guy. He doesn't particularly like doing media but he was always as honest and direct as anyone I've dealt with. You ask a question, he gives you a legit response, not coachspeak. He's got a terrific wit, is kind of a good 'ole boy personality and will be a hit with boosters and do plenty well with players.

He took a lot of flak at Kentucky the past two years for an offense that was pretty bad, but it wasn't really his issue. Three years ago Kentucky had one of the better offenses in the nation (27th overall, 34th in scoring) upsetting South Carolina and forcing eventual national champ Auburn to win on the last play of the game on the strength of Randall Cobb and co. They were terrible in 2011 but had lost all of their major pieces and then got off to a terrific start this season before their starting QB went down in game 3 and forced them to change their entire offense on the fly. Sanders became the scapegoat for fans, but there wasn't a ton of talent to begin with and then once the QB went down they didn't have any real way to absorb that.

Keep in mind, this guy was the QB coach who developed Tee Martin at Tennessee, turned Andre' Woodson into Kentucky's most prolific passer outside of Tim Couch and at one point a Heisman Trophy candidate in his final year, and took a kid who was supposed to be a career backup in Mike Hartline and turned him into a 3,200-yard passer who made a NFL practice squad. He can flat coach QBs.

Lastly, it was clear in the waning days of his time at UK that Sanders was ready to just get back to coaching a position and not having to worry about all the added pressure of being an OC and whatnot. He's a better recruiter than given credit for (he identified and coaxed Randall Cobb to leave Tennessee's backyard for Kentucky) and he'll do well at a place with the level of talent FSU consistently maintains, IMHO.

    Thanks good info. Go Noles!!!!!!!noles
