Source: Joyner to return for 2013 (UPDATE: FSU confirms)

He had some big hits to break up some plays too. Plus our DBs just seemed to not make very many interceptions in Stoops defense, but they had a lot breakups

He had very few " big hits " this year

He got stuck but that little dude from NIU, I was laughing for a solid 15 seconds

    Gave up a TD too

  • Official release from FSU:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State defensive star safety Lamarcus Joyner will return for his senior season in 2013.

“Coach Fisher and I aren’t finish with what we started here,” Joyner said. “He said from day one I was going to be one of those guys that was going to help turn this program around. We’ve started down the right path so far but we’re still not finish. This wasn’t a decision I could make just for myself but for my family in order to help them down the road, which is why I’m going to stay at Florida State for my last season.”

Joyner, a first team All-ACC selection and one of the anchors of the Seminoles No. 2 defense, started all 14 games at strong safety in 2012 and will bring a streak of 27 consecutive starts into 2013. Joyner has played in every game since he arrived at Florida State as a freshman in 2010. He finished 2012 as the team’s fifth leading tackler with 51 tackles (27 unassisted), 1.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups. He had the third-longest interception return of the season when he took a pick back 33 yards versus Boston College, which was his sixth of his FSU career. Joyner led FSU in kick returns (18) and kick return yardage (424) and had the longest kick-off return of the season. He returned five kickoffs for 185 yards including a 90 yarder versus Clemson in a top 10 win for the Seminoles.

“I’m very excited that Lamarcus is going to return for his senior season,” FSU head football coach Jimbo Fisher said. “He’s such a great leader and ambassador for our university and football program. He still has some goals that he wants to accomplish, and I can’t express how happy I am that he’s going to be here at Florida State for another year. He’s one of the guys that has been a major part of our success the last three years. For him to want to stay and continue to help build this program, really shows his character as a person.”

The guy is a heart and soul kid. He's a vocal leader, and a solid stalwart in our secondary. He was 1st team All Conference, and a great ambassador for the team.

It must absolutely suck to be you, when NOTHING is ever good enough, nor will it ever be.

By far, the single most useless, least constructive, troll of a poster on this board.
You don't even have to reply to things, as by now, EVERYONE could spit out an almost verbatim response for you.

Why not attempt to add to a conversation, rather than be nothing more than a contrarian? Or is that too difficult for you?

    coffee

I expect more than 1 turnover that he didn't even force from 5 star kids, call me crazy

Especially when they start every single game

Im glad he is returning, and hopefully he has a much better season next year than he did this season

Still waiting for a Kick Return for a TD as well, he has still yet to do this

  • Not every kid is Sean Taylor or Dion Sanders.

Lots of guys are solid, efficient players, who don't make splashy plays.

LMJ is one of them, and has also provided some flash in his time here.

Too bad he wasn't 2" taller, and 20lbs heavier, or he would be set.

Or if he was the second coming of Jesus... But then again, you would still whine about him needing to add weight.

Not every kid is a 5 star either, I expect 5 stars to play like 5 stars

The only time Joyner makes a splash or flash play as you put it, is against terrible teams

I like the kid, but he looks so tiny out there and overall I just haven't been that impressed with him at safety

Maybe it was Stoops and what he asked him to do like some say, but no matter what I would like a much better senior season

Im glad he came back, but its time to step it up and personally I think moving him to corner is in his best interest

Part of me wonders if the move to safety was so that he could start at the same time with Reid and Rhodes instead of backing them up so to speak, now that isn't the case

  • I agree, in that I think he would be a really affective cover corner. I do, however, think Stoops' zone-heavy scheme didn't necessarily play to his strengths. He has great instincts and ball skills, and I think with Pruitt he'll be let loose more often, and be allowed to make plays.

G5 wasn't big, but he made plays. Personally, i think Reid was a better athlete, but I think Joyner can/will be better, because he's got a great mix of athleticism, and brains.

I hope so, I can see that being the case

I just want to see Joyner be the player I thought he would be coming in to FSU and I don't think I had unrealistic expectations

    No I don't

My expectations are different for each player and in Joyner's case I expect a better open field tackler

Even NIU ran right across him and scored easily the other night, Gillislee ran right past him a few times among other examples

He only had 1 INT this season, and it was a play he didn't even make... he just caught it off a tip that landed right in his lap

His best attribute imo is when the ball is in his hands, and yet he didn't find the endzone all year IIRC

I just expect more and I hope he reaches his potential

But at the end of the day he is too small for my liking as well, I really hope we stop with these little ass dudes on defense... I will never be a true fan of them

Joyner got rocked Monday night by a dude that weighed in the 160's

You expect all players to be super great... don't try to act like you don't... one mistake and you blast them, it is cool that is who you are...

This is false and pretty weak for somebody who has read so many of my posts

I also have very realistic expectations of this team as a whole, I felt like this season would be a 3 loss type season and all I wanted or expected was an ACC title

    You know that

Expect all players to be super great ? not even sure what that means, I don't expect Lamarcus Brutus to be " super great " so there is already a hole in your opinion on that

I could go on but won't cause I think you get it

Don't down play this NoVa you know you have very unreal expectations... like I said it is cool cause that is who you are... and if they are 5 star players they better be all world or their ranking isn't justified..

Name one then, name one of these so called very unreal expectations lol

And what the hell should I expect from a 5 star other than a great player ? if they aren't all world then yes, the ranking isn't justified

Clowney was a 5 star player, and top 5 on most sites like Joyner... meanwhile Clowney's highlights are all over the country on repeat right now and if I mention the name Lamarcus Joyner to the majority of my friends, they have no effin clue who Im talking about

I expect more from Joyner, and there is nothing unreal or ridiculous about those expectations

Don't have to name one your post on here covers it... it is all good man, I am not trying to make it out as if you can't have those expectations just saying that is who you are... not all 5 stars are the same.. some are low and some are high... Clowney is an player who is just that elite, Joyner might not live up to your assessment of what a 5 star is... it is all a matter of opinion

Bjoern Werner: Heavily expected to leave

    Menelik Watson: Uncertain

    Christian Jones: Uncertain

My guess would be bc he is better suited there for the league, has had success there in the past, and would allow us to have Karlos on the field as well. Darby in the slot...i for one, am ok with this

Bingo. He could dominate at CB. Safety just doesn't seem to fit his attributes. Its not that he can't play the position. He can but he's wasted, imo.

Our CBs are weak sauce at the edge. This was exploited in the UF game. We tightened it up a bit against GT but Lamarcus could really help there. I think pro scouts will love his wingspan, speed and aggression, perfect for a CB. His reach offsets his stature.

  • I'm sure you'll see more safety blitzes and more bigger plays from Joyner at Safety. FSU has talented corners in Darby, Hunter, Waisome and PJ

    LHSPanther

  • I thought PJ and Hunter were safeties..? Im pretty sure PJ is a safety, but could be wrong about Hunter...he never played boundry or cover corner, maybe some nickel & dime corner though.
