So FSU doesn't need our Booster contributions?

  • If they can afford to turn down the millions of dollars in additional revenue that the Big 12 could provide, they don't need our money for the new indoor facility, to renovate the arena, build an athletic dorm or to help narrow the budget deficit.

I've emailed the higher-ups to inform them I won't be continuing my Booster contributions if the school expects me to subsidize their poor fiscal decisions. I've also let them know how important I feel it is to be able to compete financially with SEC and major conference counterparts from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac 12 and how according to all public knowledge the ACC is significantly behind those conferences.

Props to PanicFSU for the following emails (or whomever first posted them).

    President Barron- president@mailer.fsu.edu
    Andrew Haggard- WAH@haggardlawfirm.com
    BOT- trustees@www.fsu.edu
    Andy Miller- amiller@admin.fsu.edu
    Charlie Barnes- cbarnes@admin.fsu.edu
    Tom Carlson- tcarlson@admin.fsu.edu
    AD Randy Spetman- rspetman@admin.fsu.edu

  • This could get interesting.

  • Preemptive strike...I like it. Would let them know what public opinion would be shall they have the option of joining the B12.

  • Look at me getting some props!

In all seriousness, keep emailing the boosters that you are concerned about the direction of the University. Always keep things polite as they wont respond if you are rude. I am not sure if threatening to pull donations is fair. However, whatever you choose to write is your own rIght.

Email them. Trust me, they will respond. If enough people reach out they will get the point.

  • I would jump in the fray, but as neither an booster(not enough funds right now) or an alum(plenty of family, including wife), I wouldn't feel right emailing. I've just been a huge fan(both the sports and academic side of things, would've loved to get my CJ degree from there). I may talk to my wife and see if she would email them seeing as she's the alum in the family.

Agreed. Try and keep things rational and respectful.

I've been in a position where I would frequently get emails from stakeholders and have friends/colleagues in similar situations. The tone and level of condescension of your email will dictate how much attention they pay to you and whether or not you get a response.

You can still email the BOT and President

  • The emails are a nice idea, but please realize that none of us have a clue what is going on in closed door meetings right now. When writing, don't assume that anyone is happy with the ACC extension, don't assume anything.

    FSULaura

  • Good point Laura. The threat of pulling donations is only relevant if there is a realistic opportunity to join the B12. So emails should be conditioned to that scenario.

Also, why isn't Spetman on the initial email? I know he's not the most respected guy, but it would be interesting to get his stance and make him aware of public opinion.

  • About to send in my email, I hope others continue to do the same.

    NorthStarNole

  • I never listed Spetman because I don't think he will be at FSU once his contract expires.

He has lacks balls and a spine.

  • Keep in mind that word wont start leaking until the BCS Playoff vote is finalized. It is a sure thing that the Big 12 will then expand. We just have to hope FSU is in those discussions.

Right after WVU and TCU accepted invitations to the Big 12, Greg Swaim said that FSU and Clemson had initiated the contact with the Big 12 to talk about numbers. That was a long while back. Its interesting that this is all coming around again. Too much money would be left on the table for FSU to stay in the ACC. It just wouldnt make sense financially.

I posted this in another thread that got buried...

I am just a humble observer from the Baylor board, but in the past when we start breaking out e-mails of regents and congressman, s*** was about to get real.

As someone who works in politics in Texas, take it from me that the politicians (I am including in "politicians" BOR and Presidents as well) read and listen to their constituents. I do not know who the President or AD is for Florida State University, but they do not want to be known as the regime in charge of driving away boosters, pissing off alumni and potentially hurting an athletic brand that is IMO amongst the most visible in the United States.

The ACC does not value the national brand that FSU puts on football in the conference. I think the same can be said for Clemson and VT, but not to the same degree.

I wish you guys luck. I know this is just a message board, but you never know who is reading and who is listening to what is going on. The worst thing for an AD and a president is an out of touch alumni base. People can clamor on all they want about "ACC Academics are the best...bla, bla, whatever", but football and athletics is your window to the world.

Baylor has made some serious mistakes in the past and it nearly cost us a seat at the table. However we had an AD that had a vision after 2004 that has grown BU to epic proportions that no Baylor fan has ever dreamed of. During football and basketball season we were the talk on ESPN. Whether it was RG3 winning the Heisman, our 6'8 girl that can dunk (insert dude joke here), our basketball team with uniforms that made people watch just to see how crazy they were and now our baseball team being ranked #1 or #2 in America depending on what poll you look at. Student applications are up 40% for the fall semester and a lot of credit has gone to the AD. Two Big 12 Championships, a National title, Heisman Trophy, 10-win season (second one ever), elite eight appearance and a baseball team that is fixing to make some headlines.

My point is, I do not think the scholars or academia appreciate what athletics can do for academics. If FSU moved to the Big 12 it will be the most talked about athletic move for the next year, FSU will benefit from millions of more $$$, and getting to play the likes of UT, OU and other intriguing match ups with WVU Texas Tech and OSU will make that football window bigger. If we could add Clemson and two others with you, it only validates my opinion further.

I want FSU in the Big 12 and I can tell you that every member of the conference will be doing back-flips if you come.
