  • Have no idea what to expect from Karlos..

And that's because Joyner and Brooks are THAT good.

    Pretty nice problem to have.

But to be serious, it will be interesting to see if Stoops tries to insert any new packages to maximize our talent on the secondary. IMO, Rhodes and Reid are clear cut starters while there is a lot of competition and shuffling for the 3rd CB spot whereas Joyner and Brooks are the clear cut starters and Los appears to be the obvious backup to both. Not to slight Hunter, Brutus, etc but that's the impression I get.

Just to add some variety and new packages it would be exciting to see some 3 safety sets similar to what UF ran in 08-09.

    Mike makes an appearance!

I think Stoops brings Los into the box in certain packages to be an extra run stopper.

  • Karlos is in a great situation. He has the covering of Joyner and Brooks so the pressure isn't on quite yet but he knows with hard work he'll get 25 plays a game. He can really focus on assignment discipline and just learning to take his shots as they come.

  • I think he and Brooks could split time eventually 60/40 maybe.

Karlos and Bracy on the KR team? clap

Not sure you are giving Hunter enough consideration. I think he will surprise a lot of fans this season.

  • Shocking to me that some people, the author included, still aren't aware how good Terrance Brooks is. Incredible.

I really don't see Karlos doing anything other than backing up and excelling on KR this year to be honest. Next year will be telling though.

  • All- Just a quick scan over your posts and the consistent tone is Los is great, but so are the others. Would we be saying this consistently 2 seasons ago? I think we owe a great deal of praise to Jimbo for putting us all in a position to experience this. I think this year is the year we own the ACC and own a spot in the BCS Championship. I don't know of any other team in the country with top to bottom depth like us. It's great to be a Nole!!

  • Watching Karlos on special teams might be the most terrifying and exciting few seconds in college football for me.

I believe Brooks will be the other starting safety when it's all said and done. That's why I said Karlos has an uphill battle when it comes to beating him out for the starting spot.

However, Karlos has as much talent as anyone and we all know how gifted he is physically, which is why I think he will at least give Brooks a run for his money.

  • Hunter has the inside track at the nickel job from what I gathered. Could be wrong though.

  • Haven't really seen this discussed, but could Los ever move to LB? I mean, at his size and speed he could pretty much play anywhere on the field, right? If we need depth at LB and already have plenty of safeties...just saying. RB, WR, LB, S - I don't really care, just want this kid on the field as much as possible making plays! Was berated before for asking if he could play both ways, however I still don't see why that's such a stretch, at least to some extent. If he's not a starter at any position, would it be crazy to imagine him taking some limited reps on offense in certain packages while backing up Brooks on D? #wishfulthinking

  • Karlos is an excellent athlete and very smart, judging from his interviews. If he learns the position and the playbook like he has said then our best defensive lineup could be the nickel with Karlos and Joyner at safety. Reid and Rhodes as the corners with Brooks playing nickel and Telvin/Christian Jones as the backers. Then have Jenkins, Jernigan, Dawkins and Werner on the line. That's a pretty nasty lineup

Karlos and Bracy on the KR team?

I would love to see this.

What about the possibility of Karlos coming in to sub one of the LB's in nickel or dime packages as kind a coverage hybrid LB. Stoops has quite a few toys to play with. Either way I think we have to find ways to get this kid on the field.

  • Hunter will start at the nickel and back up Joyner. Our defense is so good it's not even funny

  • I will say this one time only: Terrence Brooks (if he stays healthy) is going to be one of the biggest reasons why FSU takes the next step in returning to the days of wicked defense. The "light bulb" that you guys prays that comes on for Karlos, has already come on for Brooks. The playmaking ability of Brooks and Joyner at safety will be second to none in all of college football. I see a huge difference from a year ago when Parks was the other safety. Just from my observations, Brooks makes FSU's defense that more dangerous and suffocating. Scary!

  • Hunter is fast and can lay the wood, he's really going to be a good one. Brutus looked great in the spring as well. I'd like to see Karlos backing up Moody as an OLB as well as backing up both safety positions. Karlos is just as big as Moody and can hit like a freight train, not to mention that 4.35 speed..

  • Based on the size, talent, speed, and versatility of the DB's that Stoops has at his disposal, I am hoping that he takes a page out of Ryan's playbook from the Houston Texans. He utilized a dime package when teams attempted to spread them out instead of a nickel. When you have a dominant pass rush with just four, the added DB makes the windows that much tighter to fit a pass into. Plus, it allows for some pretty exotic coverages that would cause a lot of confusion for an opponent.

With all of FSU's talent on D, Stoops can get REALLY multiple this year. I can see every-down dime packages, 5-2 packages, 3-4 looks, etc. depending on the offense being gameplanned. I can't wait to see this D in action!

FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.

+1, I agree. I think Brooks could have that 6-8 int kind of season that we've not seen in a long time.

And the great thing about this... Joyner could have one of those too lol. I think we see a huge increase in INT's this season
