In my non-expert opinion I thought 7th round was a fair projection on the several lists I've seen him ranked. Smith doesn't play special teams so that probably hurts his value a little bit. His production was ok here and I think that forty time should only help him. I would think that the forty time will help him get drafted for sure in the later rounds.

He's a deep threat and his qb was a average to terrible deep ball threat.

I don't necessarily think you can blame Smith for his numbers. Our offense is designed to spread the ball around. You notice that Jimbo and Dawsey rotated the WRs a lot. It's not a bad thing that its designed like that either, but big numbers from just one or two guys like USC isn't going to happen under Fisher. If you look at USC's Woods and Lee, those guys had 70+ and 100+ catches each. The next guy down had 29 and the guy after him had 19 catches. FSU was lead by Greene at 50+, then Shaw at 30+, Smith 30+, Benjamin 30+, Dent 20+, Oleary 20+, and Thompson 20+.

Smith will be a solid #2 receiver in the NFL. Jags would be a great fit if they move Shorts to the slot. Houston needs someone to take pressure off Johnson. Pittsburgh will need a big receiver. A lot of teams could use a guy like Smith at 6'4-6'5 with a 4.4-4.5 40. He just needs to bulk up a little bit and show some toughness when the ball is in the air and when he's coming off the line. He looked smooth today catching the ball and running routes.

i love rodney ....he just wasnt utilized enough while he was here. he could have been a serious red zone weapon if jimbo would have used him. i think he will be a very good nfl receiver

I disagree. He was better than Ponder and EJ and Smith hit on a ton of deep balls from 10-12.

EJ missed some but it is a low percentage pass play.

I think Rodney had a career but didn't improve much past his sophomore year. I don't really expect him to be more than 4th-5th WR on a team.

He didn't say anything about intermediate routes. On deep routes yes and he attempted a heck of a lot more. Our plays of over 50+ yds doubled once EJ took over.

And the numbers support this. Missed some bad, but hit on quite a few and threw them more often.

Ponder was the better QB here, but people complained that he was a dink and dunker who would never go high in the draft.
