    Certainly might be.

But folks COMPLETELY laughed at any team leaving the ACC until 2 months ago.

You REALLY think an ACC team is going too say 'no' to Big 10 money? The money difference is HUGE and the academic benefit is as well (as opposed to the ACC).

The ACC is a dead conference sadly.....FSU fans just don't see it yet (at least the ACC mafia on warchant).

It is hard to have a discussion on Warchant about this due to that "ACC mafia" as you phrase it. A few ACC apologists just post and post and post to where they drown out other view points. jmho

All you've done is taken the ACC and replaced 1 team with WV. I guess if we end up with more money that's a good thing, but on a year where we play those teams and 2 weak teams from the (hypothetically) B12 West (say, Kansas and Iowa St), our strength of schedule will suck, yet again.

Also, if we're moving to the B12, why did we just schedule a 2014 game with OKST in Dallas?

The biggest thing I have done there is get away from the ACC's horrible TV contract, bowl tie in money, and conference championship money.

The ACC would be fully viable with a market value TV contract.....instead Swofford sold out so his son could have a job.

The ACC will fall apart due to that and many BBall focused decisions.

re: schedule, if you can keep UF, Miami, Clemson on there and replace Duke, Wake, Syracuse with West Virginia and an occasionally Texas, Oklahoma, etc, you have GREAT improved your schedule.

I never said FSU has currently planned to join the Big 12.....I think it will be forced to in the next 2-3 years. 2014 game means nothing re: conf. expansion.

    1. SEC is the best place for us. 2. If the PAC 12 came calling I can guarantee you they can find a way out of that GOR contract. Texas and CO. have the money to do what it takes to get out. Big 12 is worst case scenario for FSU.

No, staying in the ACC is the worst case scenario.

It's probably 90% the ACC is dead.

So good luck selling your tickets in a dead conference.

    Agreed.

They are out there in their beliefs, including how it is obvious that ND is joining the ACC in football soon. They don't even believe it is up for debate.

The ACC is dead regardless of the status of the Big 12.

    The two aren't related.

I think people are kneejerkin again.

I also think these articles are more 'Lets throw crap against the wall and see if any residue sticks", I am sure UCONN and UC sources are tapped into the heartbeat of realignment.

Certainly could be knee jerkin.....just like you do in defense of the ACC every time it comes up.

It is odd how you view realignment as something totally out there when it has actually happened. You seem to almost take it personally. It is just business and it has happened and will continue to.

Find it odd the ACC mafia treats it like someone might view the existence of big foot....like it is some crazy subject that isn't real. A&M to the SEC happened....it is real. It is rational for folks to wonder what is next. It is irrational and emotional to get so defensive of a conference that has add AND lost schools. It is a part of a very real situation.

The ACC losing more teams is possibly the next domino. That isn't knee jerk....that is wondering about the future of FSU. I hope our boosters are doing this and not just polishing Swofford's knob.

It's not even kneejerkin, it's Christmas wishes. I've never seen anyone report that the B12 is willing to take more than FSU, I've only seen FSU fans wish that other teams were coming with us. I've also never seen any realignment news break early on an FSU message board, and then come true weeks later. When realignment actually happens, it happens within 48 hours of the news breaking, not 4-8 weeks.

I'm still waiting for FSU to join the SEC. ESPN reported over a year ago, I'm sure it's going to happen any day.

The disagreements that I see here are due to posting (or lurking) for different reasons.
    - some people want to give their logical reasons on why we should go someplace else, and why others should come with us
    - some people want to share actual whispers that they've heard
    - some people want to only read about actual whispers and get very angry when people give their opinions that are based on their logic but no inside information.

I have no inside information, but if FSU does make a move, I expect you won't hear a thing about it until the deal is already done. That's the only constant I've observed up until this point.

Pben, I appreciate you sharing what you hear. I also appreciate hearing people's opinion's that are based on their logic, but no inside sources. I only wish that people would be explicit about which they are trying to express. My Christmas wish is that every post started with one of the following three sentences:
    - I heard from a source that I can't name, but I believe to be well connected.
    - I do not have any sources, but I'd like to post my opinion on...
    - I read on [link] that...

Of course, some people would post the first even though it's not true, but I suspect those people would be identified pretty quickly - and ignored.

If everyone made clear what they were posting it would be easy to take a post for what it was worth, and I suspect the arguing would go away.

I am not defending the ACC, please do not misconstrue that, I simply expressing what I think is best for FSU.

Keep in mind, even those who hear things, are hearing slivers of what is actually going on, also for those that are Pro-B12 at any cost, remember what the B12 is comprised of, and ask yourself "Are these the people (B8/SWC) that I want FSU to cast its lot with?"

On the media contracts, nobody and I mean nobody has any numbers other than projections, and do not for a moment think an extra 3 mill dollars would go directly to the football program.

FSU needs to catch up with its regional football schools, the way they do things, through booster donations. Check out the endowments for UVA, UNC, Dook, etc...that is just the ACC, them and the SEC schools have had a solid 50 yr head start to develop a huge and wealthy alumni/Booster base, IMO this is where FSU will stay competitive.

When Jimbo is seeking raises in asst salaries, does he go to the ACC media dept or FSU Boosters?

All these " conference solutions" have pluses and minuses, the issue on these boards is when you point out the pluses of an option that is not popular with the vocal majority, you get ridiculed for it.

  • If we stay in the ACC we'll be a perennial 9-4 program that plays in front of ~68-74k fans a game. And all our good coaches will get sniped every single Dec.

I do not understand how moving to the B12 does anything to the W/L record, you do realize using conf as an excuse for the team not playing to potential is a pretty flimsy excuse.

We just poached coaches from the SEC, to replace all our coaches who left for promotions, so not sure why you would think we are incapable of retaining coaches. Not to mention not one ACC head coach took a different job, and when a SEC school made a hardcourt press on the newest conf member for their HC, they called them on it, and retained him (Strong/UL)..

The ACC has its issues, but none of what you posted has anything to do with the ACC.

That happens on all sides. Honestly, I think the ACC mafia on warchant does that in spades. ANYONE that even discusses it is ripped by multiple posters.

I wish folks could just discuss the possibilities.

I want the ACC to work, but I think the ACC's issues are much deeper than FSU boosters not being rich enough.

The conf. revenues disparities are growing....at a rapid rate. Booster differences don't erase that as an issue. THAT has to be addressed. If you start a seperate thread about booster issues....I will join in....FSU needs to improve. But that does not negate the ACC revenue gap as an issue FSU HAS to address.

I appreciate your posts.....the dialogue is much better when there aren't 5 other posters behind you ripping anyone that questions the ACC.

True...problem on warchant is you can't even mention this site by name, it is heavily censored.

The ACC IMO has dead weight programs like WF and BC, who should not be getting even revenue sharing with FSU, Miami, Clemson, VT, etc. I would not include Duke, because they move the needle dramatically in their forte, which is Hoops. That said, i also think we as FSU fans way overestimate the ratings FSU pulls in. For instance the Clemson game this yr, was roughly a 4.0, which was slightly above average for a B12 telecast featuring its top draws (Texas/OU, though obviously not when they play each other), this is simply my opinion but I think it carries some truth, ratings have a lot to do with when the game is played as much as the matchup. FSU/OU a year early pulled a 7.0, however it was a very early season top 5 matchup that had been hyped for 2 months, if FSU were in the B12 it is very unlikely that a game with OU would pull that consistently.

The B12 is in a pickle, they have a very small geographic footprint, and lost a major market when Mizzou left for the SEC. As someone pointed out, if their big schools were to make a jump for say, the Pac-12, i am quite confident that GoR would at the very least be bought out at a reasonable price, so don't make that the sole reason for these school skipping out. Now I would love FSU to get a SEC invite, but what added value does FSU bring? UF already gives the SEC the FL market, at probably better numbers (don't get mad, its just the way it is).

Now if this were poker, and I was playing FSU's hand I would use the B12 to bluff an invite from the SEC, so it suddenly doesn't have to deal with the B12 stompin all over its backyard, unfortunately that is quite the bluff and if it fails, you are suddenly stuck..

Personally i think Barron would like to strike a deal with the B10, he delivers the Florida market (all those retired B10ers would love that) and he in return puts FSU on track for AAU accreditation, which would please the faculty, to me that is the only move that makes everyone somewhat happy. I wouldn't put the chances of this happening very high.
