  • "The remaining Mountain West members are attempting to convince Boise State that it would have more security staying put rather than going to a conference that could still lose two key members in Cincinnati and UConn if there is more movement by the Big Ten and ACC. Cincinnati and UConn were public about their desire to join the ACC, but Louisville was chosen over the two rivals.

At this point, both schools have to stay in the Big East, but sources at Cincinnati and UConn are under the impression, even if it's not known to be true yet, that the Big Ten will raid the ACC for two more schools -- North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Both Cincinnati and UConn sources have said they ultimately think their schools will be in the ACC.

Of course, the Big Ten may not move beyond 14 members. Still, ACC schools that could be ripe for poaching -- Florida State and Clemson for a possible Big 12 play and NC State and Virginia Tech as a possibility to the SEC -- are waiting to see what happens with a lawsuit over whether Maryland has to pay a $52 million exit fee to join the Big Ten."

Boise State Broncos discussing staying in Mountain West, snubbing Big East - ESPN

The Mountain West and Boise State are having ongoing dialogue about the Broncos staying in the conference instead of leaving for the Big East in the fall of 2013, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com Friday night.

  • I don't see why they shouldn't go to the PAC 12.

  • Idaho doesn't offer enough for the Pac-12 to take Boise. The biggest news is that the MWC has gotten a sweet deal with the TV network that will allow them to sell more of their own games, meaning a lot more money for the conference. And that doesn't include a new TV deal that if they can get Boise and BYU would me twice the amount of money that the Big East can bring.

  • Yep. I doubt it's UNC to the B1G. UVA and VT can't separate unless both are going off to very lush pastures. VT WILL go to the SEC so UVA HAS to go the B1G.

FSU will be in the Big 12 in 2014.

    fsufsu

  • All that "UNC and GT to the B-1G" talk is just nonsense! Basically it's a bunch of "I heard" talk, nothing based in reality.

I think you see some combo of UVA/VT/Ga Tech and UNC/Duke/or NC State to the Big 10 and SEC.

I agree, that leaves FSU in the BIg 12. The question/hope is.....who does that leave for teams to come to the Big 12 and how many will the Big 12 let come?

I will be disappointed to see any less than 3 other ex ACC teams come with FSU to the Big 12. I am HOPING for as many of Va Tech, NC State, Ga Tec, Miami, and Clemson (depending who is left after the Big 10 and SEC take theirs) to come with FSU.

I fear the Big 12 will leave 1-2 valuable properties (to FSU at least...for regional partners sake) like a Clemson or NC State.

But if the Big 12 had an east coast division of something like:

    FSU
    West Virginia
    Clemson
    Miami
    VT
    Louisville
    ?
    ?

As many east coast teams as possible that carry a market and more than 20K fans in a football stadium would be HUGE.

But again, this is the problem with the Big 12 for FSU.....their business model makes them NOT want to go to 16...and FSU needs that so it isn't isolated in the SE. Miami alone or Clemson alone won't change that for FSU....even 3 others might not be enough. I think a BIG move of a whole east coast division is needed. THAT would work....but the Big 12 doesn't want it.

    Certainly might be.

But folks COMPLETELY laughed at any team leaving the ACC until 2 months ago.

You REALLY think an ACC team is going too say 'no' to Big 10 money? The money difference is HUGE and the academic benefit is as well (as opposed to the ACC).

The ACC is a dead conference sadly.....FSU fans just don't see it yet (at least the ACC mafia on warchant).

But like 55Nole said - BIG 12 needs a solid East Coast division.

I'm not the biggest ACC fan, but the B12 would be a mistake.. That shit was about to blow up two years ago... I'm all for the B1G or SEC but hell no to the B12. Our luck we go over there and then the pac 12 comes calling for OU, TX, OK ST, and TT. Then we are worse off than when we were in the ACC.

  • The Big 12 teams signed their Tv rights over to the conference for something like 10 years. So the Big 12 isnt going to get raided. If they add 4-5 eastern teams along with us then its the best place for FSU.

    1. SEC is the best place for us. 2. If the PAC 12 came calling I can guarantee you they can find a way out of that GOR contract. Texas and CO. have the money to do what it takes to get out. Big 12 is worst case scenario for FSU.

How likely is the Pac 12 to come calling if the Big 12 expands east?

I don't disagree, but let me ask you this.

Is the Big 12 with Miami, FSU and Clemson better or worse than the ACC without UNC, UVA, GT, and VT?

Obviously the Big 12 with that scenario. But I don't think FSU should rush over there. They need to try their hardest to get into the SEC 1st and then the B1G. If that is not possible and defections from the ACC occur, than the B12 is the only option. That is the only scenario where it makes sense. Being preemptive and moving because we are in fear of other teams leaving would be a bad decision.

    Very much agree.

I just suspect that the ACC falls apart even while FSU patiently waits. Basically, the schools that pushed BBall first and supported a FAILED commish and his horrible TV contract, will, ironically, be the ones to jump to wealthier conferences IMHO.

FSU will watch it play out and hope for options....I don't think it will have many other than a gutted ACC or a Big 12 with HOPEFULLY east coast partners (3-5).

I hope I am wrong.....the segment of our fan base that have great faith in Swofford....or just nuts IMHO.

I agree. I think that's how it plays out. I can't stand Swofford either. How long is his freaking contract??

  • The Mountain West and the ACC are very similar, aren't they? And their quality of football is quite comparable, top to bottom.

FSU West Virginia Clemson Miami VT Louisville ? ?

All you've done is taken the ACC and replaced 1 team with WV. I guess if we end up with more money that's a good thing, but on a year where we play those teams and 2 weak teams from the (hypothetically) B12 West (say, Kansas and Iowa St), our strength of schedule will suck, yet again.

Also, if we're moving to the B12, why did we just schedule a 2014 game with OKST in Dallas?

I have many of these same doubts. I would much rather land in the Big10 or SEC. They're both far more stable. The SEC is a much better fit for a variety of reasons - $$$, culture, geography...and the Big10 is the most stable conference with the most $$$ and most exposure in the Northeast and represents more of what we want FSU to be from an academic perspective. Either are better fits than the Big12 IMO, and I don't think it's close.

The SEC would he the best option but itvwont happen. The SEC will try to expand into the Carolinas and DMV to increase there already massive tv deal.

Im not sure Big 12 teams could get out of there GOR deal. They all willingly agreed to it and signed it willingly. Its not like the Big 12 pulled an ACC and forced it onto its members.
