RUMOR: FSU and Clemson Have Contacted the Big 12

  • We had Big 12 officials for the bowl game, they were fine, didn't take over the game, unlike the ACC.

  • Lol no

This is a major point. The acc needs to clean house with their football officiating. Officials need to be "out of the way" not "in the way" when they officiate games. As it is now the ACC Ref's are "in the way " in the play of the game.

  • This is wild. It belongs on Snopes.

A WV fan posted on a message board, "Anonymous sources in Morgantown tell me the Big 12 will expand again soon and that both Clemson and Florida State are actively engaged"..........

It has taken on a life of his own, as friends began sharing with friends.

If you read the whole thing, you'll realize it's just one guy's wishful thinking.

  • FSU just doesn't seem like a fit with the Big12 to me. As much as I hate the idea, we fit better with the SEC than the Big12. Personally, I hope we just stay put in the ACC.

I'm fine with either the BIG 12 or the ACC, honestly. More money can't hurt and the BIG 12 is really good in baseball, and competitive in basketball (football too, obviously). If the money deal is better than the new ACC deal that we will receive when Cuse and Pitt jump in, why not?

The Big 12 does not have equal revenue sharing. That's the whole problem. It should be called the UT conference, as UT is the one that calls the shots.

Not somewhere you'd want to be.

FSU won't make a move without having a great deal in place first.

Bear is someone you should listen to: ..."but it would take one (bad word) of a deal to get us to leave...."

The SEC is OUT.... ESPN holds the cards on that deal and they dont wont it for obvious reasons...(they hold the top rights of the ACC and SEC).

ESPN does not hold the Big 12 deal FOX does.

No doubt that the Big 12 has reached out...(with FOX's support) but it would take one (bad word) of a deal to get us to leave....

If I'm not mistaken, this is exactly what has driven the money up for the ACC.

So, for that, I will say thank you to Fox and the Big 12.

  • Notre Dame and Penn State would be a solid move. Although I think adding Penn State is highly unlikey, I'd like to see Rutgers as the next possible option.

You gotta get one of VT, GT, or NC State.

I just cringe at the thought of going to the Big 12.

    FSU, Clemson, ND, TCU?

    All officiating, not just football.

  • We can forget about the SEC - if the reason for staying in the ACC is waiting for a SEC chance, then we'll be waiting for a LONG time....

Personally, I'm sick and tired of the ACC for a few reasons - Thursday night games (that we get screwed in), ACC officiating, still waiting on our schedules to come out, etc... I could go on, but the ACC for football SUCKS. Also, Ham could more than hold his own in basketball in the Big 12, just my opinion.

Big 12 may not appeal that much, but it is much better than the freaking ACC...

  • When the sec goes to 16 we will be the 1st one asked. I just don't want to be in the SEC. Seriously, who wants to be associated with a conference of yahoos-mizzou and Vandy notwithstanding.

The big 12 was better as a football conference this year.

  • It's obvious what's in it for the big12

They have WVU out east and most likely want to add 4 to 6 more teams, split into east/west, etc

To do this they need FSU, WVU, Clemson, Louisville and some one like GT or Marlyand

    They could then split into

West - Texas, Texas tech, tcu, Oklahoma, Oklahoma state, Baylor and Iowa st
East - FSU, WVU, Clemson, Kansas, Kansas st, Lousivillie, GT

Would be interesting and good football bit Bear is right we need a hell of a tv deal to take ths offer

Leverage is great. Right now, the ACC will get a larger deal from ESPN for the additions of Pitt and Cuse. We may see that deal reach even higher numbers if the ACC/ESPN gets into a bidding war with the Big12/FOX.

We could come out as winners in either scenario, so I hope this Big 12 rumor is true.

    fsukum

  • So if by chance this would actually happen, our nearest conference rivals would be Clemson, West Virginia and...Texas? No matter what the TV money is, that simply doesn't work travel-wise for every other sport.

Not going to happen folks. The Big XII will do the more realistic thing and take Louisville and Cincinnati to get to 12, effectively killing the Big East for good. After that's happened we'll have:

    ACC-14 teams
    Big XII-12 teams
    Big Ten-12 teams
    Pac 12-12 teams
    SEC-14 teams

And I think things stop for awhile, because with the exception of Notre Dame, Rutgers, UConn (to the ACC and/or BIg Ten), to add an even number to any of the 5 remaining major conferences means poaching from one of the other 4....except for the ACC. The ACC could "cleanly" get to 16 without raiding one of the other 4. The Big Ten and Pac 12 both could have made moves to go to 16 last year and put on the brakes....the SEC didn't really want 14 but needed another program to get to an even number. I really believe when the BIg XII gets to 12, things cool off for several years.

Agreed leverage could push the ACC deal higher and close the gap on pac12, SEZc and Big10 from a $ perspective

  • If VT, GT, Clemson, ND, UL and Miami all joined with us I would be willing to move. But if the Big 12 only wants to get to 12 by adding 2 eastern schools then F them. Nine current/soon-to-be Big 12 members are located in a different time zone than FSU. If there's no eastern bloc then this deal shouldn't happen. If there are enough eastern teams and there is a significant increase in revenue I wouldn't mind the move. An additional $10M/year isn't anything to scoff at.

But I don't know how reliable this rumor is. It came from WVU and I saw a ton of false information coming from their camps this past summer. Who the hell is Greg Swaim?
