For those of us that have been away from the TCCL for a couple of years now, it would be interesting to know your thoughts on the following issues:
1) Are the recent coaching departures a reflection-in any way-on Jimbo’s personality? Put another way, did Coley leave because of Jimbo!?!?! 2) Would you like to see Jimbo completely turn over the OC duties to someone? Do you have concerns that he can’t be both the HC and OC? 3) What do you think of the new staff? 4) What the heck is the problem with the Oline recruiting? Looks like a fustercluck to a lot of us on here and we think it’s gonna show its very ugly head eventually.
TIA

First off, these are just my opinions. I don't want this to come off like this end all, be all.
1) Our staff was able to stay intact for three years. Most staffs at big name schools cannot say that so the fact we kept them together for so long says a lot about Jimbo. Up until Coley, everyone left for a promotion and more money and I don't think any had serious issues with Jimbo. Coley was offered the opportunity to call plays and also go back home. I think he was torn on the issue and loved working with Jimbo but he also wanted to call plays and make his own name. Jimbo is tough to work for but I don't think coaches were running to get away from him. Stoops turned down offers in 2011 and Craig initially turned down his alma mater. That doesn't happen if people don't like the HC.
2) I think history has shown it is tough to do both and only a few HCs have been able to do both with huge success. I don't think he has done a bad job as OC but I think he might have too much on his plate on game days certain weeks. Some weeks we look great and others we struggle either passing or running. I think the lack of consistency is what annoys people. I don't think he should just give up play calling to just anyone because as I said I don't think he is a bad OC. If he could fine someone better than him who had his same philosophy I think we would be better off because Jimbo could then be more motivator and have a hand in other facets of the team on Gameday.
3) I like our Staff. I like the experience on offense better and while as a whole I don't think they are quite at the level of recruiters they might balance it out with their Dame Day experience, Pruitt is growing on me but until he calls a few games I think the jury is still out on whether are defensive staff is an upgrade. I do like that they will be more aggressive and force the issue more than Stoops did.
4) Recruiting obviously isn't Tricketts strength although I think he is a great teacher. I think his philosophy on recruiting is a little out dated and I think he needs more help in identifying kids early and building that relationship. He has brought in some talent in his time i.e. Hudson, Datko, Sanders, Hart, Matias, Jackson and Watson. He just hasn't been able to build quality depth behind his starting five. We are better off than before he came but we should be in better shape after six years. I think our next OL coach will have better success bringing in more talent because I do think Tricketts reputation hurts him some with today's type of recruit.
