Question to everyone......General Census

  • Last night i was out to dinner and having a couple drinks....We had a long discussion about football. Someone made a point that i thought was interesting.....Would you like football year round? Like college one half of the year and NFL the other so there is always football? You could push the NFL season back a month every year until its in the college football off season......it would work or do you like having it all together?

Me personally i would love football year round but would it even be possible

  • Doubt it would ever work because when players get drafted they would go straight into pro games. But I think it would be a good idea overall.

  • deff did not see it like that but yeah that is true, running str8 into nfl games wouldnt be rough but still possible..........but still i doubt it would ever happen.....

  • No, but I would like to see CFB extended to 14-16 regular season games, with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the champion.

  • It'snot the NFL and College Football you would have to worry about, it's MLB, The NBA and The NHL. ESPN wouldn't destroy those franchises in order to slightly upgrade college football.

Besides that, tradition will keep this from ever happening. First of all it would be College Football that would have to move. The NFL is the giant here. And if colleges won't give up the new years bowls for a playoff, they certainly won't move the bowls to June.

And I think people believe the XFL proved year round football won't work. I don't agree, personally. I feel it was the poor product put on the field that doomed the XFL, but who knows?

  • As much as I love watching football, I don't want it year round. Truth is, I would never get anything done if it was on all the time. I also enjoy watching sports other than football. I don't want to have to decide whether I'm going to watch a Final Four game in April vs. a football game. I just think too much of a good thing normally turns into a lot less of a good thing through time.

  • I think you'd definitely get a lot of pissed off wives/girlfriends if that ever happened. The base of my argument whenever my ex-gf would start bitching about football, was the fact that its only around for about four months and only once a week in that timeframe.. That always seemed to pacify her..

  • You know how we feel right now? Like a 5 year old on Christmas Eve? A year round season would take that away. As painful as the offseason can be, I think we really appreciate this game because it's only around for a few months.

Agree with the other observations about other sports and logistics of the transition from college to pro. I'd extend college ball a bit with playoffs, but wouldn't make it a year round sport.

  • In a vacuum, yes definitely. The idea of being able to watch football year round would be great. Like others have said, it probably wouldn't work in the real world...but it would be nice.

  • I have to agree with Nashnole and FSULaura on this. I would like to see a 64 team playoff that ran till the end of Feb. That would give us 6 mo. of CFB and 6 mo. offseason.
