There is saying what you are supposed to say... 'We support the ACC', 'We will continue to help the ACC grow', ect...

Then there is publicly calling out your BOT chairman. That is a big no no, and could be bad for him and his future at FSU.

The president is the president, but if the BOT wants him out, he will be out. Bottom line. BOT runs the University.

I'd really like it if OUTSIDERS quit telling us what was exceptable or not from our president, athletic director, boosters, board of trustees and so forth.

  • As for where Mizzou itself is going, the subject of ample speculation on Saturday, Deaton said, “I know there are all kind of rumors out there, but I can assure you that the University of Missouri is totally committed to the Big 12 in case there is any question.”

His words echoed remarks made Saturday morning by MU athletics director Mike Alden, who emphatically said no Missouri representative had spoken to the SEC as some had suggested.

“No. The answer to your question is no,” Alden said. “I want to make sure: No.”

  • You guys are missing the main point.
"...misinformation about the provisions of the ACC contract..."

This is what we need clarification on.
I have read that the misinformation revolves around the 'third tier TV rights.'
What I have read is that basketball doesn't have 3rd tier rights either.

IF that is true, then a large part of Haggard's point is moot.

It doesn't change the essential point that we lose a significant potential for
additional football revenue with 3rd tier rights for football, but it does take away
the apparent biased nature of football vs basketball in the conference.

The need to look at other alternatives is still very real, but we really need to
Know the facts before we comment further.

The statement made last night by the ACC basically says as much. It doesn't change the fact that WE WILL NOT SEE the full 4 million from the new contract for 9 YEARS. So the shiny new contract is even more garbage than we thought.

  • Anyone thinking this is all carefully orchestrated is going to be disappointed. Spetman releases a milquetoast statement that we're "committed" to the ACC and the the president and BOT are as well.

The next day, the Chairman of the BOT says the ACC deal is hot garbage (and is apparently misinformed about parts of the deal) and the BOT is unanimous in looking elsewhere

Later that night, the President says we are not seeking or considering alternatives to the ACC.

It is amateur hour up in Tallahassee right now. What a joke.

Does Barron have a career ending death wish? How dumb can you be to trash your own BOT in public.

I thinly the "misunderstanding" revolves around the fact that none of our football games fall to Tier 3... So all of our football potential is shared by the conference whereas in basketball UNC and Duke have about 15 games they can sell.

At the end of the day the NC BBall schools get ~$10 Million more per year than FSU.

So the ACC and Barron are playing a Semantic game when FSU is being disadvantaged again.

I'm not a lawyer and I haven't read the contract so I could be fuul of shit but that is my understanding thus far.

I agree that it looks like Amatuer Hour from our leadership...

Crazy summer indeed. This came fast and hard out of seemingly nowhere. I mean we have been occupying ourselves every slow summer month these past couple of years with realignment talk, but this is the first time I feel like their is actually something behind it.

At first I was not really for it. Don't get me wrong, I hate being in the NC-centric/favoring ACC. But didn't feel like we fit in geographically or culturally with the Big 12. But comparing our 2012 schedule with a hypothetical Big 12 schedule...I am on board.

  • Barron is saying what he has to say at this point.

Haggard let other conferences know the BOT(the real decision makers here) is open to moving and Barron/Spetman keep up the working relationship with the ACC until a final decision is made.

How long is Barron's term? I think he made a major mistake coming out against the BOT... Although some coordination between the BOT and President / AD would have been nice... Also, WTF is Spetman doing - he seems like a "lost dog" out there.

Both parties better get on the same page or we'll more worried about an internal power struggle before any conference moves - we have until August 15th to announce to all the ACC members we are leaving to play in Fall 2013.

Edit: Do NOT put me down as someone who claims special knowledge. I just don't believe this talk.

So when the chair of the BOT says that the BOT trustee members are unanimously for seeing what the Big 12 has to offer, you don't believe?

  • If FSU doesn't leave ACC with the contract we have now, its going to get nasty in a hurry. This contract pushed those fans who already disliked the ACC and those on the fence into a Frenzy.

Best case scenario, FSU kicks ass this season in football and gives Swoffy the finger on the way out.

Worst case, the refs f us this season with a couple loses and we are stuck in this joke of a conference. If this happens, you are going to see Fireworks with the fans and a power struggle between FSU admin/BOTs.

Nobody has to be saying anything right now, yet Spetman, Haggard and Barron feel they're too important not to chime in, regardless of how dysfunctional it makes the university look.

The university needs to speak with one voice or with none at all.

I believe that when the chair of the BOT says the members are unanimously for seeing what the Big 12 has to offer, one of two things is true:

    a) they are unanimously for seeing what the Big 12 has to offer; or

    b) they are trying to extract something from the ACC.

It's probably (a). Even if it's (a), which it probably is, that is not the same thing as saying FSU will join the Big 12. It is saying FSU will look at what the Big 12 has to offer.

Again, I'll be stunned if, after looking at what the Big 12 has to offer, FSU goes to the Big 12. First, that would be a huge change, and huge changes don't happen very often.

Second, geographically it's just awful. I feel like that will make the difference.

Stunned? I wouldn't be. I'd be stunned if the BOT looked at the Big XII financials and decided NOT to leave. The only thing holding this up, IMO, is an actual invite from the Big XII.

West Va bolted from the Big East to the Big XII seemingly overnight and will actually be playing in the Big XII this season. Nebraska bolted to the Big Ten out of the blue. Texas A&M & Mizzou will be playing in the SEC this fall when this time last year those two schools were singing kumbaya over the new Big XII deals.

Things happen at a rapid pace these days. And the geography is not as awful as you think. Take a look at the Pac 12 or the Big Ten...there's some serious land between Nebraska and Penn State, between Arizona and Washington. We'd definitely be an outlier but it's certainly manageable, especially with WVU already there and perhaps Clemson joining us as well.

  • My thought - acc or big 12 needs to keep up with the sec. Having Florida state, vt, uc, and ul or nd will make big 12 just as competitive or equal. With all the love the sec gets because of it being the best conference sucks. I don't want to see another sec vs sec for the NC again because they have the best conference.
