Florida State University regrets that misinformation about the provisions of the ACC contract has unnecessarily renewed the controversy and speculation about University's athletic conference alignment. Florida State respects the views of the Chair of its Board of Trustees that, of course, any university would examine options that would impact university academics, athletics or finances. At the same time, Florida State is not seeking an alternative to the ACC nor are we considering alternatives. Our current commitments remain strong.

This is going to get nasty. It appears that FSU has an internal power struggle that will play out very publicly.
In the end, The BOT and Boosters will win. I have always felt that Dr. Barron is using FSU as stepping stone to another University and Spetman won't be working at FSU in a year.

In every school with a big time sports program there is a tension between the academic and athletic side of things.. in regards to professors and administration about priorities, etc. This unfortunately looks like a very public outburst of that tension.

So it appears that Barron and Spetman want us to remain in the crappy ACC, so that we can continue being hammered by Swofford and the ACC football officials, while Haggard, Smith, and Jimbo (by implication) want us to explore better options for FSU (especially financially) outside the ACC. Looks as it the powers that be at FSU are sharply divided. This is beginning to get very interesting.
