Pres Gee - 2 to 3 super conferences w/o NCAA

  • Word is circulating fast that President Gordon Gee from Ohio State Univ just shared on 97.1 in Columbus that he believed there would be 2-3 super conferences that operated outside the NCAA in the next five years. I'll post the link when their website has it up so everyone can hear it. Many are speculating that this is why the B1G is moving to 20 teams.

  • That's where we are headed. I think it will be four. Between PAC12, Big12, B1G, and SEC none of those will dissapear

Big 12 could if Texas gets too arrogant.

  • President Gee is widely known around here for two things.....1) running off at the mouth, and 2) being a fundraising machine.

  • Huge implications if this is true! I've always dismissed these rumors as pure message board speculation but to hear the president of a university who has decision making power share this is incredible.

  • If you really think it through, why not make this move? The one thing holding CFB back is the lack of solidarity. Look at the NFL, they create a strong brand and build together not at the expense of each other. Makes the product better. I would argue the SEC is doing this better than anyone today. The rest of the conferences are like Arab nations, no real unity. They battle each other at the expense of each other. If they all got together and decided to shake it up and re-formulate this thing outside of the NCAA, they could break the model and put it back together stronger. FSU would be a part of that because of the power of brand. Then we wouldn't be on the outside looking in. I think the super conference would create a completely new division without the smaller nonFB programs. There is such a disparity between the haves and have nots already, why try to protect the unity. Split it up and lets get to something meaningful.

  • I agree except the B1G has just as much unity, if not more, than the SEC. The B1G partnership goes far beyond just football.
