Point guard next season

  • Who is gonna start for us? The first 15 games should be pretty interesting for whoever is gonna fill that position.

  • It's Miller Time.

  • People keep saying Miller but has he ever played anything other than shooting guard for us? As mediocre as Loucks is I'm not sure we can replace him with anyone better next year.

Well it's not going to be Snaer, is it? The only other guard we have with experience is Miller, no?

No way it can be Snaer, I can really only see Miller.

  • I thought we signed a point guard in our last class?

Basically my point. No way Snaer is a PG. Almost gotta be Miller by default, not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Miller is one of my favorite players. However, if we go back to the traditional 1-2-3-4-5 lineup, Miller will need to work on channeling his inner Steve Nash and dish the rock. Dude can shoot though, got some serious stones too.

Agreed. It's going to be interesting to see the lineup next season, we have to have been one of the oldest teams in the country. Miller at the point will be definitely not be a perfect fit, but then again, when has Ham ever really had a "Traditional" point guard?

  • PG has always been the hole in Ham's recruiting resume'.

Imagine our team this year with a Kendall Williams.

We signed 2 erstwhile PGs in this class.
We'll see how good they are, but until one of them steps up, it looks like Ian Miller.

  • I think miller will be fine. I don't recall any boneheaded passes from him this year and he can get in the lane. I wish he'd shoot more. As I've said for years the more passes we make the more likely we are to turn it over. Every guy should have their zone where they have the green light and the first guy to get a good look in that zone should take the shot. I can't even keep track of all the times I've seen us pass up open shots only to keep passing it and turn it over.

It's gonna have to be Miller. Hopefully he improves his handle over the offseason and can become a Toney Douglas type PG for us next year. We've never really had a true PG in Ham's tenure and with the guard heavy line up we are likely to trot out it I think we will see a PG by committee sort of thing. It will be hard to replace the ACC Tourney and on Loucks, but the I wouldn't expect too much of a drop off next year from the version of Loucks we saw before then.

  • Miller is the logical choice, he is quick, can penetrate, but will have to look to dish more instead of just putting the ball uo. But Snaer could be an option as well. Why, he is also an excellent ball handler for his size and can penetrate off the dribble. Who do we put on our opponents PGs? He certainly has the feet to guard our opponents point guards, why not let him play the point. The best choice for PG IMO. He has more court sense of the two and would be a better leader.

It should be pointed out that 6'5" Lorenzo Brown was converted to PG for the WolfPack. He was moved over from the 2 guard this year and has done an outstanding job running the Pack offense while averaging 13 ppg. Snaer finished averaging 14 ppg. In the Pack's two tourney games, Brown knocked down 29 points.

And all we have to do is think about Marshall's point contribution to the Heels. PGs can still contribute big time in the scoring column.

I wouldn't go nearly as far as classifying Snaer as an excellent ball handler.

Haha, I don't classify anyone in an FSU uniform a great ball handler...

But we make up for that deficiency with decision making!

    Roll Nole5

  • Miller
    Thomas
    Snaer
    White
    Shannon

    Bookert
    Whisnant
    Brandon
    Gilchrist
    Turpin

    Lincoln Hawk

  • I wouldn't be surprised to see Turpin start and have White come off the bench. It would give the second unit more scoring and a taller, more traditional starting 5.

    Roll Nole5

  • Miller will have to take on that role if we are to be successful next year....also PG is his only chance of playing professionally.

The freshmen will have to prove they can handle backup minutes for depth.
