I've seen you twice on this now and I know you are joking but I feel like offering up my 2 coppers on it.

You are very unlikely to see a pitcher win. Let me explain why:

-In a pitching duel that we win there is going to be a hero batter step up and get runs when we need it and he's going to win. You could easily make as good a case for Sitz as Benny closing out that night. In just an inning with a one run lead he had the same K's and had a 1-2-3 in crunch time...his appearance was stone cold. (he actually did this two nights in a row)

-More likely than not, a starting pitcher has a breaking point where he is done for the night. Sometimes its a pitch count ending and that's usually good for him but often it is because he's wearing down and can no longer command the strike zone. At that point, some guy from the bullpen will hopefully come out and be the hero. It's very hard to predict who that guy is gonna be so trying to pick the reliever is a waste pick.

-It's kinda like the Heisman. Sluggers are the QBs that get all the glory. Every now and then, a WR or RB gets thrown a bone (ace pitcher) but not as often. The bullpen would be analogous to the team effort of defense in football. No one player will be distinguishable enough to win the award.

-There's two scenarios where I see the starting pitcher winning:

1. We have a pitching duel going on and we end up losing after the starting pitcher has ended his evening on a high note. Alternatively, we win but the runs we score are unearned like walk-ins or wild pitches/errors, etc.

2. We have a lopsided blow out and it is difficult to pick out one star batter amongst a flurry of offense. The SP would probably win by default in that case....but remember this depends on having equally high productivity among three or four batters.

Those aren't the best odds of happening IMO. Sitz was definitely a good pick and he stepped up but him and most starters only play part of the game. Our batters go for 9 innings and have more opportunities to distinguish themselves.
