Not a fan of this take right now. You can tell he is a fairly good player, but I think there are more important takes at this point. What about Deeb? Everyone knows that kid is a monster, but none of the big 3 offer yet? I would take Deeb over this kid right now for sure. Just surprising and somewhat frustrating to me.shrug

Interesting that you think "everyone" knowing something trumps the coaches at FSU, UF, and Miami.

Very good! Living in the backfield like Telvin Smith.

    That's what I was thinking.

  • If this kid had four stars next to his name no one would be complaining. Watch his film, he's a good player

I thought it was fairly obvious from the film how good of a player Deeb is. Why the Big 3 haven't offered remains a mystery to me, but I guess there is something they don't like. What isn't to like about a 6'2"+ 220-230 LB that is tackling machine with incredible instincts? I can't figure out if it is a speed thing or maybe they all think they can just get away with holding off on offering since none of the others have. I wonder if when the 1st of the big 3 offer that the other 2 quickly follow so as to not be left out. Just wondering. The coaches aren't perfect evaluators and we all most certainly aren't either, but some guys just have obvious talent. That is all I was trying to say.

  • I like that he plays offense too... Will make him a better LB in the long run. I like how FSU goes after pure football players.

Your tune would be different had Rivals, 247 an Scout waited and fully evaluated the class before assigning rankings. You see us accept a commitment from an un-ranked player and immediately think this is a questionable commitment at this point in the process.

I know you will disagree with that statement, but it is the truth. FSU saw this young man, offered him and accepted his commitment. That should tell you all you need to know.

They do this for a living and have their jobs and millions of dollars riding on these decisions.

There's a reason none of the Big 3 have offered Deeb. You have to look at it as if you were a college coach, and not a fan, watching film, of what they do NOW.

Deeb is close to being as good as he's going to get. In other words, athletically, he's about tapped out. What you see, is what you get. His film says he's 6'3, but he's probably somewhere in the 6'0-6'2 range. He's already pushing mid-230's. Not an elite athlete by any means either. How much more weight can he put on without hurting his already average/above average-athleticism and hips already? He is a good high school player, and I love the way he hits people though. Old school style Mike right there.

Hoskins is a legitimate 6'3, was measured by the coaches at Junior Day. He has long arms, room to add good weight, without losing any of his athleticism or speed. His best days are ahead of him as a player, and there's a lot of room to develop him into a good college football player.

That's what makes Hoskins a better college football prospect than Michael Deeb.

Maybe so and I won't disagree. However, you cannot teach instincts, smarts and will. I think Deeb has all that no matter what his size is. Hoskins could turn out to be incredible and I am not denying him that. All I am saying is that Deeb is really going to make these teams pay if they continue to pass on him. He has all those things you cannot teach or train for.

Oh and to fsukum, I base nothing off rankings but on what I see on film. I don't pay attention to rankings or even see where guys are listed until close to signing day. Those things constantly change and have certain bias thrown in as well.
