I was chatting with a seemingly knowledgable poster on the Rebs 247 site. I asked him how to explain their inexplicable success on the recruiting trail. He broke it down as follows.
"Robert Nkemdiche's brother plays linebacker for us. [I knew that]
Laquon Treadwell's best friend and former teammate Anthony Standifer plays for us. [Didn't know that]
Antonio Conner is from South Panola High School (Batesville) which is a huge pipeline being 20 mins down the road. [Didn't know that]
Lavon Hooks, Quadarius Mirales, and Jarran Reed played juco ball both within an hour and a half of Oxford. [Yup. Ok]
Nick Brassell played for us in 2011 and left bc of grades. [Didn't know that]
Now the rest of our class such as Daniel, Kincade, Dodson, etc that's just a product of great recruiting."He also mentioned the beautiful campus, the better than expected academics, being in the SEC, the beautiful girls, and of course HUGH FREEZE.
I don't know, It's a pretty amazing class they're putting together.

Not trying to stir things up, just bringing some insight. This past season may seem mediocre on paper, but it really wasn't based on the turnaround. OM and Freeze are selling the fact that we went from 2 wins in 2011 to 7 in 2012. They are using the "building something special" line on these recruits. Some guys just eat that up, as you can imagine with 17-18 year old kids. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.
Also keep in mind that we were beating TAMU, Vandy, and LSU all late in the 4th quarter and blew them all, so it could've been even more wins.

Maybe I should correct my statement to say just another 6-6 season. I'm sure you could still sell a rebuilding year for 2013 next year as well too: Y'all definitely surprised me with your 2012 campaign. Wish y'all the best of luck and def. will wait and see before I cast unwarranted judgement that y'all are dirty nasty ugly two-timing SEC Cheaters!
Great 2013 class though. Hope y'all pull Nkemdiche.

I can agree with this first hand. Im originally from memphis and played juco at northwest mississippi cc. Ole Miss was literally 45 minutes away. Sort of like driving from daytona to jax. Ole miss has a bigger presence in memphis than miss state and most of recruits in the northern half of the state go to ole miss. Even juco recruits are the same way. Conner is from Batesville (south panola) which their sr. Class football players who dont end up playing 4 yr college ball end up at nw miss or some other juco around the state. At nw miss its almost a given that youre going to give ole miss a shot when its time to choose a 4 year school. I played with Willie Gardner (Live Oak,Fl - Suwanee High c/o 95 Fsu commit) at NW Miss
