  • They are NOT Christians. I repeat NOT. I think they bit off more than they can chew this time. They will need 50 cops there to keep it safe.

Exactly. These are the idiots that give Christians a bad name. They do more harm than good for their religion.

They actually kind of represent the religious aspect of Christianity which isn't supposed to exist.

  • So-called church has 40 members, mostly family. That should tell you a lot. The Ku Klux Klan recently broke ties with the church. That should tell us a lot more.

There is a family member that openly lashes out at the church too.

  • Emotions in Central PA are running pretty raw right now. If they really do show up with their typical signs, I would not be at all surprised if someone took a shot at them

  • This won't end well.

The student body rioted over Joe Pa's firing. Can you imagine what goes down if Westboro shows up at his funeral?

I drove through the entire state over Christmas break. Kansas City is a great city (part of it is in Missouri and part of it is in Kansas), but once you get outside of the city, it's all farm land and no major cities.

The following videos are of the strong storm that went through the mid-west on New Years eve (IDK if you heard about it or not). There were sustained tropical storm force winds with hurricane force gusts. We had to get off of the highway and take back roads into Colorado because of the risk of semi trucks flipping (which several did). We hit a blizzard as soon as we crossed into Colorado, which was pretty cool to see.

On a semi-related note, Southern Wyoming and Northeast Utah are absolutely gorgeous.

Notice the tumbleweeds flying in front of us in one of the videos: http://s947.photobucket.com/upload/albums/fsufsu/

  • Yeah, this would be a mistake by this group.

Joe Paterno is one of the most beloved figures in Pennsylvania history. If anyone tries to make a mockery of a parade for his final rest, someone is going to get hurt.

Emotions are very raw as someone said, and this would be a very bad idea. I'm all for freedom of speech, but this has the makings of something bad.

  • They may be whacko, but they get exactly what they want, which is publicity.

You are right about emotions being raw, I commented that "Jopa gets off easy", meaning he wont have to deal publicly with the Sandusky biz anymore, and people went nuts on me (well PSU people).

Honestly if I were in joPa's shoes, this is what i would of hoped for....people (outside of PSU) only remember the last thing you did, not the 100 good things you did prior.

I refuse to speak well of him now that he's dead. His last few months were awful for a lot of reasons that were unnecessary (and unrelated to his physical suffering). He died mired in controversy and shame and the fact that he went through that is entirely his fault.

That said, I also strongly disagree with protesting the man's funeral. Whack job groups like this are always trying to stir media interest.

  • Is everyone in agreement that the JOE PA nation will be out in full force.....this will end with fights, hospital trips and alot of arrests, possibly even a small riot......Lets hope they decide not to show up

Speaking to the "raw emotions" - I was at BWI airport this morning when a two minute Joe Pa update came on the airport news channel. I looked around and saw two grown men with tears running down their face and a handful more with tears welling up in their eyes. My father is a PSU alum and was openly crying yesterday.

Whether you agree with them or not (and I don't), PSU fans feel like Joe was horribly mistreated over the last 3 months of his life. Between his firing, the removal of his name from the Big10 trophy, and all te speculation of coverups, they are incensed that he couldnt die in peace. Showing up to his funeral with signs that say "Joe's in Hell" and crap like that is going to get people hurt.

I wish I could ask one of these people, because I am honestly befuddled at how people can be mad at others for how JoePa was "treated" the last several months. He brought it entirely on himself, as he indicated in his own testimony. Children's lives were ruined, in part, because of his arrogance and narcissism towards his legacy and success at PSU. As he even admitted, he "should have done more" than essentially nothing--which is what he did.

The power and cache that made him one of the most powerful and beloved persons in the state also makes him that much more culpable for helping cover those acts up, IMO.

  • I'm surprised that the funeral information has been publicized at all. If the family wants admirers there, then his ego has survived him. They should have known better.

This is not to say that I think protesting funerals is okay, but if it should be expected, it can be avoided.
