OT... Jeremy Lin

  • have you guys and girls been paying attention? I watched him last night for the first time(saw him play against UConn last year and he was really good) and he is nasty.

As a Knick fan(lukewarm), I dread the day when "Fools Gold" comes back and hogs the ball and shoots his 40% from the field and NY misses the playoffs.

Send Starmelo back to Denver for a case of Coors Light and let Lin and Stoudamire run pick and roll into the second round of big boy basketball.

sorry if this has been addressed.

  • The difference between Melo and Lin is 1 thing. Effort. It's nice to see on the Knicks for once.

  • 3925, Lin gets the Knicks a good look every time down. MarshMelo dribbles the air out of the ball on one side of the court and takes a fade away to the tune of 40% and bores everyone of his teammates because they know he doesn't like to share the ball. Then he lets the man he is guarding race down to the other end for an easy layup.

But he shoots 25 times, scores his 20 and gets his name in the paper "Anthony had 26 points and 6 boards in a losing effort".

And for whatever reason, most people think he is good.

Always thought he was overrated. Knicks didn't need him.

  • Lin's a great fit for the D'Antoni offense. A lot of it is mental. You have to make the right decisions and attack the hoop when there's an opening. He likes to run, too. Lin has proven very capable of running the offense and it's making him look really good, too.

The kid understands the system and can obviously ball. Needs to cut down on turnovers, but they're undefeated in his starts, so it's a small complaint.

  • It has nothing to do with Melo, the Knicks didn't have a PG. Simple as that. Hopefully Lin can continue to be impressive but he has to come down to earth at some point.

That's what they used to say about Steve Nash when he started.

I had a friend that used to argue with me that Carmelo was better than Lebron. Hell, I'd take Bernard James right now over Anthony.

  • I just started paying attention to the craze this morning, after i got the full brief on whats been going on, and the dudes backstory, and also seeing that he dropped 38 and kept Kobe in check.

Also saw on ESPN that the Knicks almost released him the day of his fateful first start.............crazy crazy stuff.

  • So Canolee, how do you really feel about Melo? Lol giotta agree. Personifies NBA isolation-ball hog-ESPN stat-highlight mentality. Unfortunately when he and AS get back this week, Lin's effectiveness will be greatly reduced. Not sure what will happen but I've really liked Lin's play. hated what he did to my Lakers tho. Oh well

  • atg, I thought of Nash myself. More of a scorer at the PG, but takes what the defense gives him.

And at 6'3, don't let his background and the school he played for fool you, he is an NBA athlete.

dub, lol, I've always hated him. Even in college. I root for UConn hoops and the HUskies beat him by 35 that year in their two games, yet they got to stay home for the NCAA's and have an easy draw, while UConn had to goto Texas and play Texas and got hosed.

And even when he has a good offensive game and gets 31 and 10, he gives up 30 to a guy like Johnny Salmons. Fools Gold.

agree canolee. Give goog looking stats but doesn't have what it takes to lead a team to the title. Denver traded him with no problem and are a better team now. Go figure. I athought warrick and that white boy guard meant as much to that dance winner as much as melo. My opinion.

  • You are correct sir! Jimmy Mac and Warrick were big time for that team.

I watched the Cuse today. No superstars, but those kids know how to play the game, unlike the UConn kids.

Wouldn't be shocked if Boheim got close to another ring this year. They are right there with UNC and Kentucky IMO.

  • Ahem.......my boy Gerry McNamara.

    canolee

  • Chet +1 for Gerry. Helluva player. Showed that the year after the championship. C'mon Canolee, give your boys some credit. They still champs til the first monday in april. Yeah, 'cuse looks really good. BTW u coming to spring game?

    free shoes

  • dub, this is the softest and dumbest UConn team that I can remember, although the team from two years ago was pretty dumb.

Probably not the Spring game, but you never know. When is it again? I have to be down in south florida for work at the end of March, so if it works out, then maybe. But I'll definitely make it down for one home game this year and Maryland for sure.

btw, Lin had a poor shooting second half, but even when he misses he is often penetrating and drawing help which opens up offensive rebounds for teammates. Unlike Starmelo who shoots 20 foot fade aways.

    canolee

  • Ricky Rubio outplayed him last night -- it looked like Lin was exhausted in the 2nd half. If Rubio can every refine his jump shot, that kid is going to be a top 10 player in the NBA - pretty good defender too.

    SMART

  • I thought trading Galinari for Melo was a bad trade on the knicks part. If they were playing Amari, Lin and Galinari right now they'd be dangerous.

  • I'm a Knicks season ticket holder, so obviously I've been watching all season... until last Saturday. I kept telling everyone that Melo is a ball hog who only cares about himself. The purest observation was after a playoff loss to Boston last year, Melo was smiling and talking to the press about how well he played. He's a selfish diva who doesn't care about the team half as much as he cares about himself. Don't get me wrong, he'll get upset - if he is being threatened. I haven't been a fan, and I'm not sure if I ever will be.

So, yeah, last Saturday I flew down to Aruba and stopped paying attention to the Knicks. I got a few emails with post-game reports and I noticed that they won. When I got the third one in a row I thought, Huh, Davis must be getting some PT and the Knicks are finally living up to some of the hype. I was more than a little bit surprised to find that Davis was still out and so was Melo and Stat.

I think it's awesome that Lin is playing well, but it does seem like it will have to end at some point. I guess it's possible that he is consistently that good (nod to Nash), but as a Knicks fan I can't help but be skeptical. There was a point in last year's season when everyone was chanting MVP for Fields. Knicks - where good players come to die, and great players come to murder their teammates.

It will end when Lebron is guarding him.

Lin has been a great story. Listening to him speak makes me wish the whole league was unselfish as he is. Just wished he played on another team so I could cheer for him.

  • You guys realize that every team Mello has been on gets better after he leaves, going back to Cuse. (loosely defining "leaves" with current NYK situation)

  • The Knicks should trade Melo and Chandler for Dwight Howard.

I agree. I'll take 5 guys passing and moving without the ball until they get the shot they want over the ball movement killing play of CA. Anyone notice what Denver did after he left?

    Enough said.
