I've been sick for a pretty long time, on and off. Today I went to the doctor and he thinks I have Celiac Disease, which basically means I'm allergic to Gluten.

I got a whole bunch more tests and stuff to do, but he's pretty certain thats whats going on.

So to anyone on here that has it, I know it's not the end of the world, but how bad does it suck?

My sister has it mildly and it's not bad to work around but it is kind of expensive since gluten is in everything now a days. I work at Melting Pot and we have a gluten free menu. When we first started doing it we were told that there's some kind of club/support group online which pretty much tells you what restaurants have gluten free menus and best places to buy food.

Edit: We actually went to Maggianos in Tampa for my birthday a year ago. When she told the waitress she was gluten free one of the chef's came out and talked to my sister to see what she wanted. She was new to this at the time so the guy just made some pasta dish for her and she said it was awesome.

  • While I don't have celiac disease or any sort of autoimmune condition, I cut gluten grains, sugar and processed vegetable oils out of my diet and lost 165 lbs…going from 360 to a healthy 195. Cutting out gluten can make things difficult in social situations, but after a while you really don't miss eating bread, pasta and whatnot. I still have a beer on occasion and do fine with it aside from a little bloating.

I am doing a variation of a Paleo/Weston A. Price type of diet and I've never felt better. I plan on sticking with this for the rest of my life. Josh, PM me if you'd like more info. Hope you feel better soon.

    Another brother?

Josh, my mother in law has had to go gluten free for psoriasis and has seen a remarkable changes. Now that I'm aware, I'm noticing all kinds of products that are being made gluten free. I'm sure there's an adjustment period but I don't think you'll starve if that is the way you go.

Perhaps you could do a comprehensive story on Clint and get some inside info from the nutritionists for the program.

Yeah, I understand it's all about diet. I'm just saying, like how hard is it? Do you still get sick?

I'd do about anything not to feel like this, so I'm not depressed about it, just ready to feel better.

It's not bad. The more you read about it the more seems basically everyone has a tough time with gluten to a degree but it's such of a big part of folks diet that they don't recognize it. I've been eating on a Green Faces/Paleo diet for almost a month and it really hasn't been that tough of a transition. You feel so much better (no more energy spikes or digestive issues). Some of the differences you won't believe until you experience them.

I actually do not have it but I often do gluten free diets or cleanses. There are a lot more options now so you can get lots of decent to good food that is readily available. I work at whole foods so I get lots of information on celiacs disease, check out brands like glutino they have everything from frozen pizza to chocolate covered pretzels. If you have any questions on other products or recipes id be happy to answer them.

  • Sorry so late replying Josh. I had to cahange my whole diet for health reasons. At first I was like "damn". Now after getting used to it, I'm feeling younger and better than in years. That's just me but you never know what's gonna be a blessing. Good luck bro.

Novak Djokovic was diagnoed as having Celiac and his tennis career took off exponentially when he went gluten-free. I think that whatever sacrifices you make in changing your diet will be more than offset by improvements in how you will feel.

Just to follow-up on this post, a couple years back, before his diagnosis for Celiac's and diet adjustment, (#1 in the world tennis player) Djokovic was considered a very talented head-case who was always quick to call for the trainer or retire from a match - in other words, a quitter. I think the past year's and 24 hour's results disprove that notion. The upshot is, if Josh does have Celiac's, living a gluten-free diet is not an imposition, but a blessing.
