    Report finds academic fraud evidence in UNC department - North Carolina - NewsObserver.com

    An internal investigation into UNC-Chapel Hills Department of African and Afro-American Studies has found evidence of academic fraud involving more than 50 classes that range from no-show professors to unauthorized grade changes for students.

  • UNC's academic stock is plummeting.

    What really pisses me off is this bozo was making 160k a year to do nothing all because of where he says he got degrees from.

    And please don't take this as racist but in general departments like this with no research component and an obvious flaw in their academic integrity are a huge drain on a university. The research driven departments are put under greater pressure to subsidize these moochers. I know it is PC to bring in things like this but it is so useless. Can they grant a degree in Swahili? What job are you going to get with that? Also, most biomedical sciences Ph Ds are not making 160k a year.

    If it goes to the NCAA, they are going to get smashed. But it appears as though the NCAA already was aware of this, perhaps.

    Are you speaking in terms of all general departments or specifically the Carolina issue? You make quite the generalization when stating the "obvious flaws in their academic integrity." Whether you see a need for this line of study is irrelevant. You have a choice to not partake. But, to make a sweeping indictment about the integrity of programs of this nature is not, in my opinion, based on racism per se; but moreso ignorance.

    Nope...I was coupling this particular's department's integrity with the flaw in many departments like this. In other words, I don't think every one of these departments is crooked at every school. I think that is the icing on the cake for a school like UNC that deserves better.

    In academia, published articles and books (excluding general use textbooks) cost money rather than make money because they don't appeal to a wide market audience.

    And yes I consider this no research component because a real research component actually brings in a decent stream of extramural funding. These are more academic pursuits for the sake of saying they were done rather than to promote growth.
