  • Don't agree with this. Yes we're going to the Orange Bowl, but did you see how we got there?

  • I've felt all a long he would jump into the 3-3.5 million range. But I think this will be negotiated to increase his buyout as well.

  • An extension is to be expected, generally it is believed that a contract for a coach should always run five years out for recruiting - 'Son, if you redshirt, I'll be your coach in 2017.' Currently, as the article mentions, his contract runs through the 2016 season.

I'm against a raise or increase in salary.

3.5 would make him a top ten coach (as coach pay standings stand today). 3 would bump him simply a couple spots up.

I thought we were going to fire him?

  • Every time a job opens up in the SEC, or a place he's coached before we are going to have to deal with this unfortunately.

Despite the way we got there, the man just did get us to 11 wins, a conf title, and an OB berth, so a pay raise was to be expected.

  • We played 2 real games this year and went 1-1. Our team didn't play 1 complete game the whole year, I like Jimbo a lot, but this year is not worthy of a raise. Plus he gets a bonus for the ACC and Orange bowl. I look forward to this every year. grumble

Dude sux so hard. Why don't people who know more than me realize it?

Tennessee is trolling us into keeping him, IMO.

  • Bleh, I'm ok with increasing it $250K to $3M but not any higher. I don't think he deserves a raise at all, though, given our on-field performance half of the season (literally). Hamilton didn't get a raise despite winning the school's first-ever ACC title or taking us to 4-straight NCAA Tournaments for the first time in school history. It'd be a travesty if Fisher got one for this.

Correct. He's 16th right now, but keep in mind others will get raises too. 250,000 isn't overly large.

  • I could live with them extending his contract as long as it does not increase his buyout. Maybe bump his incentives up a little bit. I am completely against any raise or anything that increases his buyout.

If this does happen I will send a polite email to boosters and let them know this is unacceptable.

Yup. coach gets to go out and tout "ACC Champs, and i'll be here your whole career". Raise? If anything, to $1 over Muschamp. Save that money for a DC hire.

  • For discussion sake, if you look at what he has brought in (revenue) to the unviersity, what is an extra $250k to our school. I would make some stipulations, though, like ranked in top 5 consecutive years, BCS bowl in consecutive years, etc. Revenue in means you usually have some salary expenditures (overhead) going out.

  • Some of you have missed the big picture of what he has done for FSU. Practice facility, modern S&C, player dorms, been a huge proponent of getting us out of this abortion of a conference. When we start pulling 30 mil per year, you will get it.

Bottom line, you need to pay like a top job to remain a top job.

I have family that are Hawkeye fans. Iowa pays Kirk 3.8 per year, to lose to CMU. Yet, they get it. Win or lose, it solidifies Iowa as a top job when they need to hire someone new. There is no guess work. Candidates know what they can receive with success.

Our fans unfortunately still think like a small market team. I for one, am thankful that Fisher is elevating our expectations. When Baylor and TCU are paying more than FSU, it's time to remind people what FSU is.

One poster put it best on another site. FSU staying in the ACC was dangerously close to having the relevance of Ole Miss, known as a cheap program in a cheap conference. IE - a stepping stone.

We need to get that salary up over 3 mil. It says FSU is committed to excellence. If he fails, he'll be fired, but there will be no doubt that this is a big time job.

We need more forward thinkers in our fanbase, and less nickel and dimers that think the year is 1995 and you come to FSU because you just should.

  • Preach it Bowden.....agree 100%. Give him a one year extension and $3MM/year package. Fisher is 30-10 in three years...75% winning percentage.

By buy out it I meant the amount that he would have to pay for university for leaving.

  • FSU nearing one-year extension for Jimbo Fisher - CBSSports.com

A one-year extension for FSU's Jimbo Fisher is almost done, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations. One more year would lock up Fisher until 2017. He currently makes around $2.75 million per year. President Eric Barron told the Tallahassee Democrat he's in contract discussions with Fisher.

That's probably the only conference we can win in. We'd drop 2-3 games in the SunBelt, for sure!

I know we would. We can't play with anybody it seems. I'm thinking hard about becoming a La Crosse fan. You get to hit your opponent on the coconut (or in the yarbals) with a long hard stick. Sounds like fun.
